Hello,

My name is Jacqueline and welcome to my Tranquil Spirits podcast.

Today I want to talk about stress.

Now we all have stress going on in our life one way or the other.

There's lots of things that we can be concerned about.

There's lots of things going on in the world that we got to be cautious about,

But how does stress come about?

Stress mainly comes about when you worry about things,

When you put your concerns into it,

When all you can do is just think about what's going on in the world around you.

Now,

Not always is the stress actually happening to us.

We're thinking about certain things that are happening in the world or certain thing that's happening with people around us and we put ourselves into that position as if whatever the stress is,

Whatever the thing is that we're thinking about is actually happening to us when really it isn't happening to us at the moment,

But we're just concerned for other people.

Well,

If you think about this,

What you're actually doing is you're causing yourself concern.

You're causing yourself this stress feeling,

This negative feeling.

It could be causing it twice because number one,

You're worrying that you may be getting it or it may happen to you,

Whatever the situation is and also when and if it does happen to you,

You've then got the stress and of it actually happening.

So that kind of sounded a bit double Dutch,

I guess,

But it's true if you think about it when we worry about something that hasn't happened and then say it did happen,

We double worry about it.

So really what is the point?

Because when we worry about something that we've heard in the news or that someone else is talking about and going through at the moment,

What we're doing is we're building it up in our head.

We don't actually know how it's going to be because it hasn't actually happened to us yet.

But anyway,

That aside,

Don't worry about things that aren't actually happening to you.

Now do something to change your way of thinking.

Okay,

So when we worry about something that causes negative emotions and feelings within us,

And the more we worry about that something,

The more we think about it,

The more we build it up in our head because we're already negative.

So those negative feelings start to grow.

And what happens after that is we think of more negative things that could happen with whatever the situation is around us.

So what we should do is be thinking about positive things,

Be thinking about happy things.

So what we should do is to smile.

Now that sounds a bit crazy,

Doesn't it?

With all this stuff going on in the world.

But I want to just stop here a moment and let you actually have a go at this.

So I want you to think about something that makes you worry that you're worried about that you feel negative about.

Just think of something.

Get that feeling in your body.

Know how it feels.

Know how it makes you feel.

Does it make you think of something else negative?

And so the roller coaster ride goes,

Okay,

Now stop thinking about whatever that is.

Now I want you to stop for a moment and think about something that makes you happy.

So smile and think of something that makes you happy.

Now how do you feel now?

Do more things that make you happy come into your mind?

Do more things that make you smile come into your mind?

Yes,

It does because that's how it all works.

Whatever we're paying our attention to,

However that makes you feel,

That will roll and roll and roll.

So if it's something good and happy and fun,

The more we enjoy it,

The more we get involved in it,

The more happy things happen,

The more the people around us smile,

The more we feel so warm inside.

But it also has that reverse side as well.

So when we concentrate or focus on something negative,

Focus on something that's worrying us,

Then that momentum starts as well.

And the more things that worries we think of,

The more things that could happen,

The more bad things that can go on.

So the next time you sit and worry about something,

Just check in with yourself.

Just go,

How am I feeling?

Or notice how you're feeling.

Pay more attention to how you are feeling.

And if you're not feeling very happy or you feel these negative feelings or thoughts keep multiplying and multiplying,

Then just take time to stop yourself and choose to be happy.

Choose to think of happy things.

Choose to smile.

And the more you can do that,

Then the more you can come away from worrying.

Now,

I'm not saying that life will never be full of worries ever again because that's just how we are as human beings and how the world is.

But what I'm saying is you will feel more in control.

So you will actually be able to choose,

Okay,

I'm worried about this,

But what actually does worry do?

Does worry cure it?

Does worry make things better?

Does worry make whatever's happening to you now go away?

No,

It doesn't.

It just intensifies that negativity.

So when you're feeling happy,

When you're feeling calm,

When you're feeling relaxed,

It just feels so much better to be that human being.

So just give it a try.

Just for today,

Just give it a try.

Check in with yourself every hour,

Every time you look at something,

Every time you just check in with how you're feeling and try and get more momentum of happiness,

Of positivity,

Of those good things in life.

I hope this has helped you.

It really helps me a lot,

Especially when there's a lot of negativity going on in the world.

I can bring my focus back to how I want to feel,

To be positive,

To be happy,

To find good things to think about.

Anyway,

Whatever you're doing today,

Have a great day.

Enjoy what you're doing and remember a little smile goes a long way.

Thanks for listening.

Bye for now.
