#5 Why & How Chanting Works For Me

In this talk, Simply Cosmic expresses why chanting work for him. The goal of this talk is to help people who have not to been exposed to chanting or prayer understand how it works. Cosmic express what is chanting, his background on chanting, his current chanting practices and the effects chanting has had on him.

Namaste my brothers and sisters. I am your brother Simply Cosmic. In the moment with you today. Still experiencing the coronavirus in the moment. I don't have it but we're all in this experience together on planet earth called the macoronavirus and I just want to keep my consciousness high. Keep my positivity high and keep my love in a high vibration. So I'm going to continue creating these little talks. And today we are on number 5. Today I want to bring you a unique dimension of my life called chanting. And our talk today will be called why chanting works. Why does chanting work for me? And the goal of this talk is to get our brothers and sisters to understand what chanting is and what chanting my past chanting and how it has positively affected me. And we're going to go into details about what chanting is. And let's just jump right into it. What is chanting? Let me check my mic real quick. There we go. Exactly what is chanting? Chanting can be, Chanting is not exclusive to just religion. Chanting can be mantras. Chanting can be invocation, Expressing words that power you. Chanting can be seen as an affirmation. Chanting just activates some part of you to connect. Chanting allows us to be present. Chanting allows us to connect with ourselves and our brothers and sisters. Chanting can be singing. Chanting can be repetitive. And chanting has a lot to do with voicing, Expressing verbally. And we can also express these words in our head so it can be a mental repetition of words. Or it can be, I would say, A paragraph of repeating something, Especially the Lord's Prayer in Christianity. In Buddhism we have the mantras, Hinduism mantras and sutras. And we have the Bible. We can repeat a certain line during a certain ceremony. But at the end of the day we're voicing something either mentally. And one of my favorite forms of chanting is singing and positive affirmations. Even though I want to tell you a little bit about my history with chanting, I wasn't always into chanting. Even though I grew up chanting as a Buddhist practitioner, I was born in a Thai family, Which means we practiced Theravada Buddhism. Theravada. Arahang sama samputo pakawa puttang pakawantanga bhiwate mi sutpatipanno pakawantanga. See, That's a traditional Theravada chanting that shows that you are a student of the Buddha and you embrace the Buddha and the enlightened one. That's the traditional way. And I did that for a number of years, But then whenever I experienced suffering, I disconnected with my Theravada roots because it just didn't work for me. So my chanting evolved into, You know, When I was suffering, My chanting, It turned to singing that when we sing songs that evoke an emotion, Like when you're sad and you sing a sad song, It makes you feel better. Or when you're sad and you sing an inspiring song, It makes you feel better too. But we're expressing something that helps us cope with our situation. So during this time, I took a break from the Buddha's chanting and then I had my spiritual awakening which got me into understanding the law of attraction and positive affirmation, The I am that I am statement. I am alive. I am love. I am beauty. I am grateful. Thank you so much for my life. Thank you so much for this moment. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That is one form of chanting, Also known as prayer, Right? Prayer and chanting is the same thing to me at least. And I use these positive affirmations intensely every day. I am a miracle. I am alive. I feel great about my life. I feel sad. I feel expressing my feelings got me to connect with myself. And so I practiced these different forms of chanting for a while. I got into singing songs in a circle, Drumming, Drumming and making noises during drumming, Expressing yourself during music making. What I want to get to is that right now I have evolved into singing and chanting. I got back to Buddhism but I found a new style of Buddhism called Mahayana Buddhism. We are not going to get into the details of Mahayana Buddhism. And I also got into throat chanting or throat singing. And it has changed me so rapidly and so much. It helped me connect with myself so much and I will tell you why in a second. But I want to give you a little taste of the throat chanting. Ohhhh, Uhh humanoid, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Uhhh, Ahhhhhhh, Uhhhhhhh, Uuhhhh, Uuhhhh, Uuhhhh, Ahhhhhhhh, Uuhhhhh, Uuuuuuuuhhh uuu uhhhhhhh, Uuuuhhhh, Uuhhhh, Uuuhhhh, Uuhhhhhhhhhh uuuuuuuhhhh, Yjob winore da buuurnaww uuhhhhh, Y liquor going vumum warriors go vduv. . . . . . . . . . . Breathing in. . . And another form of chanting that I do is singing. Throat singing is a form of singing. I started becoming more creative and started chanting. I started making my own chants. We are the guardians of the planet Earth, Protectors of the water land and above. We are the angels of the planet Earth, Be the change, Meditate, Spreading love. This is the kingdom of the planet Earth. This is our kingdom, Our mother Earth. Na-na-na-na-na. . . Om. Om. So I don't limit myself on how I chant, Why I chant, What I chant. I let the universe flow through me, But I want to get to. . . So I took a break from Buddhism for five years and then I started doing more Omings, Which is just more about. . . Omings, I don't really consider that any religion because you Om because it just feels good. That's why I would say Omings. I wasn't Omings because I thought it was a Buddhist or Hindu practice. I just like. . . Om. Breathing into it with me. Om. Om. But when I got to Mahayana Buddhism, That's what I'm practicing for about a year and a half now. It has a lot to do with more mystical side of Buddhism, Not as mystical as Tibetan Buddhism, Which has a lot of practicing and using tools and incense and a lot of chanting. Mahayana Buddhism has more to do with energy, Bodhisattva, Representing a certain energy, Embodying certain energy, And being present while doing it. I want to share with you my current practices and the effects it has on me and I have a list of effects. These are my current practices and chanting that has to do with chanting. Here's the list. I right now chant this chant. When I say Mahayana Buddhism, I practice the Vietnamese style of Mahayana Buddhism. Mahayana Buddhism is also in Korea, Japan, China, And has expanded to many cultures, But it's heavily in China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, And other parts of Asia. Here are the chants I currently do. I do the chant called the Shurangama, Also known as the Chudai Bhi, Which takes about 30 minutes to do. Everyday, Shurangama, Excuse me, The Shurangama is the Shulangnyam. And then I also do the Konyins, The bodhisattva of compassion. The Chudai Bhi really helps embody love, Like, Hey, We represent love, We believe in compassion. I also do, Since I live stream, I do a throat chanting on the live stream everyday actually, Except Monday and Tuesday. A throat chanting, The Om Mani Papai Hom Namo Amida Pho, Or any chant, Anything that I want to do, I can just make up on the spot. Love yourself, Love yourself, Love yourself, Love yourself, Love yourself, Love yourself, Love yourself, Vipassadev, Vipassadev, Vipassadev, Vipassadev, Vipassadev. Almost sounds like a blood type, Right? Vipassadev. And I do the Om. Om. I chant the names of the bodhisattvas. Quand Tiamo. And chanting the name of the bodhisattvas, Bodhisattvas are beings that delay their enlightenment to help other sentient beings get closer towards Buddhahood. And Buddhahood has a lot to do with being beyond the cycles of birth and death. And so the bodhisattvas just represent a certain energy, Manjushri, Daiji Vantusu Lai Bodhat, Bodhisattva, Has to deal with wisdom, The bodhisattva wisdom. Namo Amida Pho. Amita Pho, Known as one of the most powerful bodhisattvas in Buddhism, Has to do with the bodhisattva of infinite light, Which simply means infinite, Infinite possibilities. Anything is possible. So that means the bodhisattvas of divine energy, Also known as God, Jiyori or love, Which is just an infinite potential. And also you may have heard this mantra, Om Maripame Om Maripame Om. This is the chant of Konyin, The bodhisattva of compassion, The great compassionate one. And when we chant this, I'll go into more details of that. When you chant the bodhisattvas, The Konyin's name, Bodhatkantayam, Konyin, When you call her or his name out, That Konyin is both male and female because Konyin is a celestial being. When we chant this name, It invokes or embodies compassion, And it helps turn negative situations into better ones. So it has to do less with the physical body of Konyin, And more has to do with the energy of what Konyin represents. I also chant the Medicine Buddha's mantra. Tiyathangam bhikanze bhikanze Maha bhikanze rajasamudkatte soham Another style of the Medicine Buddha mantra is Tiyathangam bhikanze bhikanze Maha bhikanze rajasamudkatte soham Another style of the Medicine Buddha mantra is the Vietnamese one here. Namo dang phuang Yau chu wu yuk su lu li Kwang buang ung phan And every time I chant these names, It changes every time. Well, Not every time, But I don't allow myself to stay in a box when I'm chanting. Namo dang phuang Yau chu wu yuk su lu li Kwang buang phan And the last way I chant, The last thing I chant is I just make up my own chants. I make up my own songs. Because we have to customize our chanting to ourselves. Like maybe you're going through sadness. Maybe you want to sing. I love me so much. I'm ready to be happy. But if your ego says, I can't sing, I can't sing, I can't sing, What do you do? Don't sing it, Just say it in a loving way. I'm ready to love me so much. I'm ready to love me for who I am. Right, A positive affirmation. I am ready to allow love to flow through me. I claim the love that I am. I allow myself to feel love. I allow myself to believe in me. I allow myself to smile. So these practices I do on a day to day basis. The Chu Lang Niamh everyday for the past two to three months now. The Chu Dai Bi five times. And this takes about 40 minutes. And when I live stream, I live stream for about three hours. And I chant, I would say I chant out there for about an hour. But I don't make it, I don't think hard about chanting. It just comes to me naturally. What are the effects that the chanting, What are the clear effects that these chanting have on me? As a human being, As a practitioner, As a inspired to be Bodhisattva. I'm inspired to walk the path of the Buddha and the Bodhisattvas and Christ consciousness path. What are the effects? Here's the effects that it has had on me already. And I have, Let's see how many on the sondal list, About nine things on the list. So here are the effects. Oh, And I got a little ladybug on me. A cute little ladybug. Breathing in everybody. And slowly breathing out, Lowering my tone, Mindfully speaking, Grounding my energy. And listening to what I'm speaking right now. Here we go. Effects it has on me. Chanting, Effects that chanting has on me. Number one, While I'm chanting, Solutions to issues come to me naturally. For real. When I'm chanting and I have a certain issue that's on my mind, I keep like, The issue would come to my mind and I would keep chanting. Because I wouldn't allow my thoughts to take me away from the moment. Sometimes I get distracted by my thoughts. But I recognize it quickly and I keep staying engaged in the moment. And when I keep doing that, The solutions present itself to me like a little present from the universe. This ladybug has decided to listen in on the talk to you. Number two. The chanting has allowed me to have a clear dialogue with the universe. With the Buddha, Or my higher self, Or the presence of love, Whatever you want to call it, God. And really it's just my heart. I have more clear dialogue. I have a dialogue with my higher self. My higher self says, Why do you do this to yourself? It doesn't make you feel happy. Do something else. Believe in yourself. Believe in love. When I have issues in my head, The solutions come from my heart. And that chanting has allowed me to notice the difference between my mind and my higher self speaking. And it has been powerful. Number three. Chanting clears my aura, My chakras, And my mind. And my physical body. Om Mani Vame Um We are the gardens of planet Earth. Protectors of the water, Net and above. When I chant this, Man, I feel good. I feel my heart opening, My third eye opening, My throat chakra, My crown chakra. And when I'm doing this, For me to do all this, My root chakra meditation opens up, Clears that. Finding my, And expressing myself, My sacred chakra, When I become myself, When I know who I am. When I become creative with my life, Then my solar plexus opens, My purpose is revealed. Then my heart opens, Then all this energy starts to flow. I did a lot of work to get here, But the chanting helps maintain this vibration. That's why priests and practitioners, Buddhist monks, People who meditate, They have a different aura to them. They speak differently. They think differently, And it comes with their practice. Their aura is clear, Their smile, They feel some energy. Right? Healers, Chamans, They got something going on with them. It's because of the practices they do. Number four. The effects that it has on me. My energy flows amazingly well. Right now, As I'm speaking to you, Since I've been chanting, My energy is flowing. My crown chakra is open right now, And I feel it. I have to stay present because it's a lot of energy. If I don't become, Like when I'm chanting, I have to be mindful of it. I have to be present because you can chant and be in a, What do you call it, A shamanic experience. I'm here to be in a shamanic experience. I'm here to be present. I'm here to stay in the moment because shamanic experiences can take you out of the moment and disconnect you and connect you with your higher self. But you don't know what the heck just happened. It's hard to comprehend. So being present while doing all of this, Right, Helps me to keep my energy grounded and flowing. Like when you take any psychedelics, It allows your energy to flow, But it's hard to comprehend what's happening because it's not a grounded experience. Unless you just do a really minimal amount. But at the end of the day, All you need is meditation, People. Yes, People call it a medicine, But realize that how much medicine do you need until you realize you are the medicine, That your breath is the medicine, That chanting can be a medicine, And that you don't need to go out and buy or grow it. And I'm going to get a lot of backlash or whatever from some people. But realize that all you need is yourself, That external substances are not necessary, But they help along the way, But for us to detach from them too because we can be attached to medicine, That we forget the moment is the medicine. And that the fifth reason, The fifth thing that chanting has made an effect on me is that it opens my third eye, It activates it. I can activate my third eye on command now, But I have to use it for healing purposes. I'm not here to show off that I can do it. I'm just saying that that's the effect. I can control my third eye, Open it, Close it. Don't use too much. Don't let it drain you because there's a lot of energy. Close it. And that when I open my third eye, It's not just open my third eye, It's I can learn to activate my heart chakra. I can learn to activate my throat chakra on my third eye and open all my chakras from chanting. So basically you're able to control your chakra systems. You can control your reiki, Whatever you practice. When I'm singing, I can throttle how much energy, How much love I want to express out there. What I want to express. If I want to express masculine energy, If I want to express feminine energy, I have control and I do that by emptying my mind. And chanting allows us to do that. Number six. Chanting allows me to be deeply present and deeply focused, But not so focused that I'm in my head focused. Like you're really staring at this tree. I'm so focused. Because sometimes we can be so focused that we're in our heads and drinking too much coffee allows us to be too focused, Overly focused, Over-insertion. You want to be gently focused. You want to be deep but present, Not so intense. I used to be intensely focused, But for us to be gentle, Because the moment right now is not screaming at you, This is the present moment. This is the present moment. And now, Breathing in and out. This is the moment. Number seven. That chanting and doing practices with chanting helps me to cultivate my gifts, Using my control, Enthralling my chakras. But then it also helps me to. . . I can read people's aura. I can detect their chakra system. But it's not me. I don't really do it. My ego is saying that. But really, It's just the Buddha within me doing it. Because we have to stay humble with this stuff, Because we can say, It's me. But at the end of the day, It's not really me. It's simply cosmic. It activates our gifts. If you think you don't have gifts, Yes you do. Yes you do. For example, A gift is, You're able to listen to people and help them open their heart. That's a powerful gift. Enchanting allows us to be more calm, Listen to people. To listen to people. To be present with people. That's a gift. But for me personally, It allows me to sing my heart. It allows me to read energy easier. It allows me to use my life easier. And that means it allows me to connect with myself and use my potential, Which is the Divine potential. Number 8. The chanting has allowed me to be more creative. When I'm chanting, I don't box myself in. Om mani pan me om mani pan me om I can do other things with that, Right? Om mani pan me om mani pan me om mani pan me om mani pan me om mani pan me om Om mani pan me om It allows me to do this talk with love. It allows me to speak my heart more and speak in the present moment without thinking too much. It allows me to do readings in a fun way. I turn my mind off and I do card readings. I can read people's aura or whatever it needs to do. It allows me to perform from my heart that when I'm on a live stream, When my heart tells me to do something I do, I just turn my mind off. And then all this energy comes through. And all this is just my sacred chakra, Right? My sacred chakra. It flows and I watch my sacred chakra energy really much. I keep my sexual energy really, Really grounded because it's powerful. But when we don't keep it grounded, To say the least right now, Our creative energy might be low or dim or exhausted. And the last thing that chanting helps me do is that it helps me to feel my divine light. It helps me to shine. It helps me to feel bright. It helps me to have my auras bright and I feel it. What does that mean? I know that when I walk into a room, I'm making a difference just by being there. Because I'm calm, I'm relaxed, I'm happy. And the chanting helps me to maintain this level of presence. That I can go into a chaotic environment and start relaxing and start meditating. And people will feel this energy and I can see it. Because I do my work of chanting, I do my work of singing. That my tone of voice is like this, Right? Because of all the practices that I do with my throat chakra, My heart chakra, My solar plexus, My sacrum, My root, Activating my third eye and opening my crown. That when we have a constant practice, That we can show up at a chaotic environment, Especially at this time of the coronavirus. And it allows us to be a brilliant presence in a room. That's really. . . Imagine you can be that person. That you can go somewhere, A classroom, You can be on an internet chat room, You can be in a restaurant and your presence makes a difference. And today, Chanting is not about religion. That when we chant, That when I chant, My mind turns off, My ego turns off. But it's not always, Right? From time to time my mind will start thinking, But I will become aware of my mind because I do have a constant practice. That chanting allows me to be present with myself and notice when my mind is unhappy, My mind is worrying, My mind has issues. And it allows me to be creative. It allows me to flow. It allows me to have a clear dialogue with the universe. And that positive affirmation, You can make up your own chanting. You can make up your own prayer. That you can break the form of not just sticking to the Lord's Prayer or the Buddha's chanting or whatever chants we do, Not just one thing, But we can expand from different styles of practices, Different styles of chanting, Different styles of singing.
