We're ready.
I'm going to go for it.
We are in week 2 of a 10 day,
2 5 day segment of Divine Incubation.
And I've chosen the focus of these 10 days to be all about emotions.
Where they reside,
How we respond,
And what energy we give them,
Or what energy they call for.
Today we start week 2,
Day 6 of this 10 day Divine Incubation all about emotions.
I'm going to do a little bit of an intro again.
And this is like week 2 intro,
It's not repeat the whole week intro.
I read something from Melody Beatty I wanted to share.
Might be Beatty.
Beatty.
Do you feel anxious,
Scared,
Ambivalent,
Wishy washy,
Or fiercely determined?
Do you feel clever,
Powerful,
Blissful,
Curious,
Or relieved?
There are many shades and colors,
Nuances of emotions.
Some emotions get our attention quickly.
They clearly present themselves and we immediately name them and claim them as ours.
Sometimes the feelings are not that easy to identify.
Those are usually the ones we need to pay the most attention to.
Those are often the ones that can be controlling our lives.
An important idea to remember about feelings is that they are just emotional energy and we're allowed to feel however we feel.
Yet there's another way we can feel.
It's called centered,
Balanced,
And clear.
When we identify,
Feel,
And release,
Whatever feeling is up each day will easily and naturally return to that quiet,
Peaceful,
Centered place.
I sit on my front deck with Quinn.
Early Sunday morning.
Fresh,
Cool air from a long-needed rain breezes across my arms.
Her fur.
I know there is peace here.
I feel there is delight,
Satisfaction,
Pleasure,
And a little bit of awe.
Then the neighbors next door come onto their porch.
Close enough to hear all their words.
My heart clenches.
My nerves jangle.
My ears try to block out the sounds.
They are loud regardless of what they have to say.
They sound angry and domineering no matter who they're talking to.
Then a yellow bird,
An oriole I think,
Lands on a sunflower.
Not just once.
They are more rare here than other birds so they're always a delight.
She lands and eats,
Flits off,
Then comes back.
She can tip upside down and get what she wants from any angle.
It's a small miracle that I voyeur unbeknownst to her.
And unbeknownst to me,
In these few minutes of concentrated watching,
The neighbors have gone quiet back inside.
This is Before the Brush,
And I'm Patricia Baldwin-Segabrook.
I bring you these live as well as recorded creative meditations in the hope that they find someone who needs to be inspired to trust their creative call.
My prayer is that my words,
Art,
Efforts serve you well.
We are in a 10-day course looking at emotions,
Where they rest in the body,
How we recognize and acknowledge them,
And then let them be or go.
This,
Then,
Is how we come to our creative space that is never the same,
Always new,
Based on which emotional state we show up in.
We're called Before the Brush,
And we come here with a brush in hand.
I encourage you to start associating color with emotions if that helps you recognize them.
Like,
If you can't give them a name,
Give them a color.
Find a way that you can find their expression so as to commune with them.
And again,
Let them go or let them be.
All these troubles come from mistrusting love.
Shall I start asking myself all those same questions all over again?
Live in trust and presence.
That's Thomas Merton.
For me,
Fear is the opposite of trust.
And love is so tied to trust that I have chosen to leave that emotion,
Love,
Off of our 10 days,
Because every other emotion we explore points to or addresses where love is or is lacking in the end.
Until you discover heaven nests in your palm,
You will keep traveling in widening circles.
That's Hafiz.
Let life and the elements wear your fear away.
Let your inner knowing have the state.
It has a word for you that is so very real and rich.
So far beyond that of the fear voice trying to rise.
Don't let it.
Or let it.
But don't fear the fear.
Face it.
Acknowledge it.
Then realize how small it is.
How shallow.
In this life,
Just one small nugget in the entirety of the universal living,
My one fear just now is nearly invisible.
It counts for very little,
If even little at all.
This can be a relief.
A re-life.
Trust that.
Every storm runs out of rain.
Maya Angelou.
So fear.
Again,
We are not painting our emotions,
But letting our emotions be so that we paint.
I have stressed many times and continue to stress.
But it is time.
We,
Artists and creators,
Are needed in this time more than any other.
Does this cause fear in you?
Fine.
Let that rise.
Fear the enormity of such a statement.
But do it anyway.
I have you and me and us and everyone else.
You are a part.
Only a part.
But you are a part.
Play it.
Amen.
But today.
Let's go for it.
20 minutes.
Above all,
Enjoy yourself.
And don't fear the fear.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
You.
All right,
Everybody.
Thank you for being here.
