No matter what is going on in or around us, we can always engage in a 'smile' practice - even during those times when it might feel as though there's very little to smile about. If nothing else, then in the least, we'll have exercised a few facial muscles. This smiling meditation is featured in the "Something to Smile About" episode of my podcast, and is inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh's "Wonderful Moment Meditation." Enjoy!

Notes And so we begin with a smile.

Even if we don't feel like it at this moment,

We're not forcing it.

We're just allowing our face to soften.

And as we breathe,

Let a smile rest like a tiny bud on our lips.

Exhale anything and everything that may be causing us to feel out of sorts.

Just breathe and smile.

Smile and breathe.

As you relax your body incrementally now,

Every area that softens,

Every area that lets go responds to your inner smile.

Smile at your toes and feel them soften and relax.

Smile at your ankles,

The shins and calves in your lower legs.

Smile at your knees,

Your thighs,

Hips and pelvis.

And let your legs and hips soften and relax in response.

Smile at your lower belly and your stomach.

And your lower belly and stomach soften and relax.

Smile at your ribcage,

Your chest,

Throat and neck.

And as your chest softens and expands,

The shoulder blades behind you soften in response too.

So send a smile of appreciation to your shoulder blades,

To your spine.

And as your entire back softens,

Smile in appreciation and feel your shoulders decline and lower and relax.

Send a smile to your shoulders,

To your arms,

Wrists,

Hands and fingers.

Smile at your chin and the jawline and your jaw and cheekbones let go.

Send a smile to your nose,

To your eyes and as you smile and your eyes softly crinkle at the corners,

They simultaneously sink more deeply into their sockets.

And let's turn that frown right side up as our brow softens in response to our smile.

Smile at your ears.

Move your attention to the back of your head and send a smile there.

Now move your attention up to the crown of your head and smile.

Just a soft gentle smile that radiates throughout the entire body.

Pay attention to how you have straightened up in response to this body wide smile.

A glow with an inner smile as we breathe in and breathe out.

Allow your body to straighten up a little more as you make any micro adjustments.

And really get a sense of what you're feeling right now.

What does it honestly feel like?

Bring your attention now to your heart center and smile a warm gentle smile at your heart.

And with a smile your heart radiates positive energy throughout your body.

And your entire being.

As you smile through your heart,

Imagine this heart smile is like a dandelion bud blowing its smile seeds throughout your entire body and into your environment and out into the world where a smile is needed now.

Let your smile return you to peace within.

Let that peace radiate out like the dandelion seeds too.

Room far and wide,

Seed in peace wherever it is needed.

Carried on the wind with your water trusts.

In this space of peace,

I invite you into the wonderful moment meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Breathing in,

I know I am breathing in.

Breathing out,

I know I am breathing out.

Breathing in,

I am aware that my breath has become deeper.

Breathing out,

I notice my breath has become slower.

Breathing in,

I am calm.

Breathing out,

I feel at ease.

Breathing in,

I smile.

Breathing out,

I release.

Breathing in,

I dwell in the present moment.

Breathing out,

I know it is a wonderful moment.

Breathe and smile,

Smile and breathe in the stillness of this wonderful moment.

Breathe and smile.

Breathe in,

You and Now we prepare to bring that smile Calm and peace Back with us into this time and place aware again of all the sounds around us The sensations within us The surfaces beneath us and the warm radiating smile in our heart Take another deep breath in and exhale One more time a deep breath in and exhale And smile as you open your eyes and radiate your peace Namaste
