In this practice you might find it useful to get a cushion or pillow to hold as if you are holding and comforting a hurt part of yourself. Developing a sense of becoming your own loving parent and caring inner voice to balance out any critical voices which can be quite harsh and brutal at times, enforcing a sense of being unlovable and not good enough. You might experience it as the pillow or cushion as the hurt part of you, maybe ourselves as an infant, a small child, or teenager. It may be an adult child or a wounded part of ourselves that you can hold and comfort. You can develop the sense of being a healthy adult, a loving parent to ourselves, giving comfort and safety to the hurt part of you. Then also receive the comfort as the wounded part of you. So you give and receive love, compassion, kindness and safety to yourself. Soothing the hurt and pain, while feeling the hurt and pain being soothed by the healthy secure adult within you.
