A short inner comfort and safety practice.
Get yourself comfortable sitting or lying down.
Settle into this short practice to help you connect with a sense of inner comfort and safety,
Calmness,
Ease and well-being in the body,
That you can nurture to help you feel okay whenever you need it.
You may like to have something soft you can physically touch,
Like a pillow,
Cushion or a blanket.
As a neutraliser,
An opposite sensation for tension,
Stress or anxiety.
The eyes can stay open or gently close if it feels safe to do so.
Take some time and practice connecting with feelings of calmness,
Comfort,
Ease and safety.
Be curious if the opposites are there,
Of stress,
Tension or anxiety.
Just letting the senses open.
Sounds that are coming and going.
Smell.
Taste.
Touch.
Images.
Nothing to change,
Nothing to fit,
Nothing to get right or wrong.
This might be new to you,
Developing a connection with a feeling of inner comfort and safety.
It may take some practice,
Especially if you have not felt safe.
Keep going if you can.
Keep practicing.
If you have not felt safe,
See what that part of you would want to need.
You can imagine what you might offer someone you care about to feel okay.
How would you support them?
How would you show them you care?
Learn to give that to yourself as a way to comfort and nurture yourself with kindness and compassion.
Remember you can slowly and softly breathe out at any time as we practice,
Developing your own sense of inner comfort and safety.
It can help you to calm the nervous system.
You can recall an image of a place,
Of things that can give you comfort and support.
An image of a place,
Real or imaginary,
That feels good for you.
Times when you have or could imagine feeling safe,
Content,
Relaxed and at ease.
Curious how it feels as you connect with images of calming places.
Let go of those images and recall some smells that are supportive and special for you.
Smells that are soothing,
Comforting,
Nurturing.
Tastes,
Maybe something sweet or sour.
Tastes that nurture a happy,
Healthy feeling of ease and well-being.
Sounds that are comforting and supportive.
Sounds of a city or natural sounds of nature.
A safe touch of things that feels nurturing and caring.
See how these things and a soft out-breath can help you to develop a feeling and sense of safety,
Comfort and ease in the body.
Help you feel calm at any time,
Day or night.
It's an internal resource to soothe discomfort.
You can use at any time.
So you can feel okay if you're feeling stressed.
Curious about how you can develop a feeling of calmness by recalling these things that are comforting,
Supportive and nurturing for you.
Use it like an antidote to soothe any anxiety,
Stresses and fears.
A natural medication that's always available.
Bring it with you as you continue with your day.
We complete this practice.
Allowing the eyes to open if they've closed.
Moving the toes and fingers.
Ready for the rest of your day.
