Welcome to this meditation for the injured athlete,
Find a comfortable space either sitting or lying down and gently close your eyes,
Coming into your inner world.
Injuries are hard and grueling,
Taking time away from your sport,
Pausing your goals,
Changing your routine,
This can all have a major impact on your mind and negatively affect your physical recovery.
In this meditation we are going to focus on both the physical injury that you have sustained as well as the psychological implications of this injury.
For now just notice your whole body,
Your awareness can be very general and not towards any specific area,
Whatever comes up,
Just noticing with curiosity for a few moments,
Even if your mind is quite busy,
That's okay,
Just noticing this too,
Watching and being aware,
Then gently bringing your attention to your specific injured area,
Wherever that may be on your body,
Noticing what comes up here,
Is pain coming up,
Discomfort,
Warmness,
Tingling,
Maybe nothing at all,
Just floating your attention on your area,
Allowing everything to come up as it is,
Not trying to change anything,
Comfort,
Discomfort,
It's all the same.
In the recovery process your body needs both,
Resisting pain or discomfort will just tighten up the area,
Decreasing blood flow and increasing the pain you originally resisted,
Letting it all go and letting everything come up in this area,
The doors are open to all visitors,
Your body knows what it's doing and how to recover and heal,
You don't need to do anything,
Just notice this area and allow your body to do its thing unimpeded for the next few moments,
Your body has not failed you with this injury,
It has always been there for you when you weren't injured and now you are showing up for it by resting and allowing the deep sensations to be there when they come up,
The same way a car sometimes needs a mechanic,
Your body also needs some tender care and nurture for deep healing to occur,
Your body will be back stronger than ever before,
Then just seeing if you can notice any thoughts associated with this injury,
Any fears you may have,
Maybe fear of reinjury,
Fear of losing time,
Fear of failure,
These are all just fears and have no association to your actual physical injury,
If you can notice your fear,
Feel it,
The deep sensation it brings up inside you,
Allow it to be there,
The same way you allow your pain to be there with your physical injury,
Allow whatever comes up with your fear to be there,
Coming up to be looked at in a different way,
Looking at the sensory route of it and not the story it's spinning,
Now you are just going to repeat these powerful sentences after me,
When repeating these sentences,
Direct the feeling towards your injured area,
My body is strong,
My body is strong,
My body is strong,
My body is adaptable,
My body is adaptable,
My body is adaptable,
I accept all sensations,
I accept all sensations,
I accept all sensations,
The more I accept,
The more I recover,
The more I accept,
The more I recover,
The more I accept,
The more I recover,
Excellent work,
Now as this meditation comes to an end,
No matter what you feel in your specific area,
Your body is always recovering with pain,
Our comfort,
Our neutral feelings,
Now let's wake ourselves back up,
Moving our body around,
Wiggling our fingers and toes,
Moving our legs and arms,
Then gently opening our eyes,
Thank you for listening to this meditation,
Good luck on your journey.
