Deeper Beauty This is a heart contemplation that helps you encounter beauty where there might be areas of ugliness or stagnation in your own life.
Beauty is the cure for ugliness,
Our own ugliness,
Our selfish small-mindedness,
Or the unkindness of others that's been afflicted upon us,
The ugliness that we can see in the world.
When we see life in the diminished,
Mutated,
Ruined version,
Our hearts shrivel and groan.
Maybe our hearts have become so numbed,
Blackened by ugliness that we find it hard to see the beauty in anything,
Anymore.
But this is what we need and what we long for,
Beauty and perfection in life.
We need a touch from the ultimate beauty,
The one who perfects and beautifies all things.
You might call this God or not,
But either way,
It's fine.
So close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths.
And I want you to envisage a dry,
Barren landscape.
There's been a fire here that has ravaged much of the earth.
The grass has gone,
The trees are skeletons.
There's not much life.
It's forlorn,
Ugly.
You don't really want to be here.
You'd rather turn away and find a new place,
But this is your landscape at the moment.
It's the difficult places in your life.
The part or parts that you don't enjoy where you'd rather not be,
Where you find no goodness or solace.
And it might be a place that you've given up hope for.
But I want you to stay here,
Because this place is a place of potential.
There is life within it.
There's potential for beauty to exist here again,
Though you don't yet see it.
Because deep within the ground,
There remain seeds,
Seeds of hope that have been impervious to the scorching.
And the trees have roots that have managed to escape the intense heat.
And there's been rain.
There's been rain falling for a short while,
And the ground is damp.
And the sun is with you.
And it shines.
And it warms you.
The childland also responds to this heat and moisture.
And there's now new growth coming up out of the earth.
The trees that used to be there are reappearing.
You're seeing new forms,
New growth,
New grasses,
New plants,
Slowly but surely growing up out of this ground,
Rising above the charred wasteland and slowly filling it.
The presence of life and beauty is returning.
Things are being restored to how they're meant to be.
And you drink this in.
This picture,
This metaphor offers you ultimate beauty.
And you feel it.
You allow it to go to those charred,
Empty,
Broken,
Ugly places in your life.
This presence of ultimate beauty is real,
Tangible and powerful.
It can restore.
When you're ready,
You can end this contemplation and know that ultimate beauty has a presence and a power that can truly bring beauty and perfection to those areas of your life that need it.
