Hello and welcome.
This talk is actually a departure from my usual track content.
It's a poem.
It's still a chocolate chunk of wisdom,
But not from NLP or Stubbicism.
I only came across it recently and it has had a profound effect on me.
It seems to encapsulate all that I've learned during my years of practicing NLP and Stubbicism.
It captures it succinctly and beautifully racked in a short poem.
Often cited in mindfulness circles,
This poem I'm sharing with you is called The Guesthouse.
It was written by the 13th century Persian poet Rumi.
And it's a reminder for us to not resist the thoughts and emotions that are passing through us,
But to meet them with courage,
Warmth and respect.
In the poem,
Rumi explores what life would be like for a guesthouse if it was actually a living human being and how a guesthouse welcomes everyone that comes to its door.
It's all about welcoming all positive and negative emotions as they come into our lives,
And it encourages us to treat every feeling like a guest,
Accepting each one gracefully with understanding because they all have something to teach us.
So I shall begin.
This being human is a guesthouse.
Every morning,
A new arrival,
A joy,
A depression,
A meanness,
Some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all.
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture,
Still treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought,
The shame,
The malice,
Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
Well,
Thank you for listening to this poem.
