Find a comfortable seated position.

Sit with your back straight but relaxed.

Close your eyes gently and take a few deep breaths,

In through your nose and out through your mouth,

Allowing your body to relax with each exhale.

Begin by focusing on your breath.

Notice the sensation of the air entering and leaving your body.

Allow your breath to settle into a natural rhythm.

Bring your attention to your heart center.

Imagine a warm,

Glowing light emanating from this area.

Silently repeat the following phrases to yourself.

May I be happy.

May I be healthy.

May I be safe.

May I live with ease.

Take your time with each phrase,

Allowing the meaning to sink in and truly feeling the kindness and compassion you are directing towards yourself.

Now,

Bring to mind someone you care about deeply.

Visualize this person standing in front of you,

Bathed in the warm,

Glowing light from your heart.

Silently repeat the following phrases to them.

May you be happy.

May you be healthy.

May you be safe.

May you live with ease.

Feel the warmth and love flowing from your heart to this person.

Now,

Think of someone you neither strongly like nor dislike.

This could be an acquaintance or someone you see regularly but don't know well.

Visualize this person and repeat the phrases.

May you be happy.

May you be healthy.

May you be safe.

May you live with ease.

Notice any shifts in your feelings towards this person as you offer them your goodwill.

Now bring to mind someone with whom you have a challenging relationship.

This might be difficult but try to approach it with an open heart.

Visualize this person and repeat the phrases.

May you be happy.

May you be healthy.

May you be safe.

May you live with ease.

Allow yourself to feel any emotions that arise,

Acknowledging them without judgment.

Finally,

Extend your loving kindness to all beings everywhere.

Imagine the warm,

Glowing light expanding from your heart,

Encompassing the entire world.

Silently repeat,

May all beings be happy.

May all beings be healthy.

May all beings be safe.

May all beings live with ease.

Take a few moments to sit quietly and absorb the feelings of loving kindness you have generated.

Notice how your body feels and any shifts in your emotional state.

When you are ready,

Gently bring your attention back to your breath.

Take a few deep breaths in and out.

Slowly open your eyes and bring your awareness back to your surroundings.
