If you feel exhausted but mentally wired, this is for you. It’s not overthinking—it’s your nervous system. Learn why your mind stays active and try a simple reset to help your body and mind slow down.

Transcript

If you're someone who gets a lot done,

Who shows up,

Holds it together,

Pushes through,

And then the moment you finally stop,

Your mind won't.

I want you to know this isn't because you're doing something wrong.

It's because your nervous system has been in go mode all day.

And it doesn't automatically know how to come out of that.

If your mind feels like it won't shut off,

Especially at night.

Or right when you finally sit down.

I want you to hear that.

There's nothing wrong with you.

What you're experiencing isn't a lack of discipline.

It's not that you can't relax.

And it's definitely not that you need to just think more positively.

What's actually happening is that your nervous system is still activated.

And when your nervous system is activated,

Your brain's job is to keep scanning,

Keep thinking,

And keep solving.

Because to your body,

It doesn't feel safe to power down yet.

So you might notice this looks like running through conversations over and over.

Thinking about what you forgot to do.

Planning tomorrow and the next day and the next.

Or even just feeling this low-level restlessness,

Like your body can't quite land.

And here's the part most people miss.

You cannot think your way out of that state.

Because this isn't a thinking problem.

It's a body state.

So instead of trying to shut your mind off,

What if you gave your body a signal that it's okay to settle?

Let's try something simple together.

Gently bring your attention to your body.

You don't have to change anything.

Just notice where you are.

Now take a slow breath in through your nose.

And a longer,

Slower exhale out of your mouth.

Let's do that again.

Inhale.

And exhale.

As you do this see if you can soften your shoulders.

Unclench your jaw Let your body drop even just 1%.

You don't need to feel completely calm.

You're just creating a small shift.

Because small shifts are what tell your nervous system.

I'm okay right now.

And when your body starts to feel even slightly safer.

Your mind will follow.

Not instantly.

But gradually.

This is the work.

Not forcing yourself to relax.

But learning how to come back into your body.

Again.

If this resonates with you,

You're not alone.

So many high achieving,

Thoughtful people experience this because your system has been trained to stay on.

And the goal isn't to shut that off completely.

It's to give your body moments where it can finally say,

I can rest now.

If you want more tools like this,

You can follow me here on Insight Timer.

And for now,

Take one more slow breath.

And let your body soften just a little.
