Welcome.
This meditation is for anyone who has ever felt too aware of themselves.
Perhaps you've walked into a room and immediately started monitoring how you looked,
How you sounded,
Or how you were being perceived.
Maybe you've spent so much time trying not to take up too much space that you've forgotten what it feels like to simply exist without self-consciousness.
If that feels familiar,
Know that you're not alone.
And for the next few minutes there is nothing you need to prove.
Nothing you need to perform or get right.
Simply allow yourself to arrive here.
Take a slow deep breath in through the nose.
And a gentle exhale through the mouth.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out Allowing your shoulders to soften,
Your jaw to relax.
Noticing the support beneath you the chair,
The bed,
The floor.
Let yourself be held.
Now bring awareness to your body.
Notice any tension that you're carrying perhaps in your chest.
Yours to make.
Your shoulders.
There's no need to change anything,
Just notice.
Many of us learned to become aware of ourselves,
Watching,
Monitoring and adjusting,
Trying to stay safe and trying to belong.
Trying not to make mistakes.
And yes,
While those strategies may have once protected us,
They can also become exhausting.
So for a moment now,
Imagine setting that vigilance down.
Just for now.
Imagine what it would feel like to stop monitoring yourself.
To stop checking.
To stop wondering how you're coming across and being perceived.
And instead simply be here.
Bring your attention to your breath.
The rise and the fall.
The rhythm that continued Lao's efforts.
Notice that your body already knows how to be here.
It does not need permission or perfection.
It just exists.
Silently repeat,
I do not need to shrink myself to belong.
I do not need to earn my place.
My presence is enough.
Imagine yourself now entering a room,
Not trying to impress anyone,
Not trying to disappear,
Just arriving as you are.
Breathing and existing.
Taking up the space that already belongs to you.
Notice how that feels.
You don't have to become louder or fearless.
You don't have to become somebody else.
You are just learning how to stop abandoning yourself.
Take a slow breath in now.
And a long breath out.
And as we begin to close,
Remember,
The goal is not to become the most confident person in the room.
The goal is to feel safe enough to remain yourself whilst you're in it.
Take one final deep breath.
And slowly return your awareness to the space around you.
The sounds,
The support beneath you.
And when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Wherever you go next,
Remember you do not need to shrink or disappear and you are allowed to take up space.
Thank you.
