Autumn is the season of harvest.
It's the time when farmers gather crops and nature reminds us of the abundance that surrounds us.
Gratitude is our way of harvesting the richness of our lives.
By practicing gratitude,
We train our minds to see abundance rather than lack.
Let's begin our own gratitude reflection.
Find a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
Rest your hands gently.
Close your eyes if you wish and take a slow,
Deep breath in and a long,
Gentle exhale out.
Let's begin by starting small and bring to mind one thing that you are grateful for today.
It can be something really simple,
A warm cup of tea or coffee,
A conversation with a friend,
Or even the crispness of the autumn air.
Hold this image in your mind once you've got it,
And with your next inhale,
Breathe that experience and gratitude in.
And with your exhale,
Let gratitude fill you from top to bottom.
Now think of a person in your life who brings you joy or support.
Picture them clearly in your mind.
Silently say,
Thank you.
Thank you for being a part of my life.
Notice how it feels in your body to send gratitude to this person.
Now let's move our awareness to something less obvious,
Perhaps a challenge that has taught you resilience or a small moment you might usually overlook,
Like the comfort of your bed or the sounds of leaves crunching underfoot.
See if you can find appreciation here as well.
Take a few deep breaths,
Allowing gratitude to ripple through you like a warm light filling your chest and radiating outward.
Stay here for a few moments more,
Simply breathing in gratitude and breathing out appreciation.
When you're ready,
Return to the moment,
Open your eyes,
And carry this sense of abundance with you all through the day.
Gratitude is a practice that grows stronger the more that we use it.
There's a reason why people like to do gratitude journals.
So I invite you to write down three things that you're grateful for before going to bed today.
They don't have to be big.
Sometimes the smallest things can bring us the greatest joy.
