
Answers From The Ancestors - Intro To Ori (Homage To West Africa)
Be guided in receiving responses from our ancestors. We utilize body-scan as a way to make room by releasing tension and fear. You will be guided gently throughout the process. "What is it that I need to In order to take the best care of myself?" We find in this time of injustice many opportunities to step into our roles within the community in hopes of supporting one another. This is Joshua Young and you are listening to Answers from the Ancestors.
So what I want you to do is just start by taking the next couple of moments to gather any things you might need in order to meditate and in order to be as comfortable as you can.
If you have a space that you've dedicated to your ancestors,
Maybe an altar,
Then it would be great to practice this meditation in that space.
You might bring out a fresh glass of water.
You might light your favorite incense.
And you might even light a white candle.
But whatever you do or whatever you have available to you,
Just continue to take the next few moments to gather those things and yourself and get comfortable.
And get comfortable.
And so when you find yourself in a comfortable position,
Just start to notice what's around you.
You can keep the eyes open for this.
And the only thing you're doing right now is just taking in what's happening in the space around you.
And so very slowly,
Just slowly blinking the eyes,
You can go ahead and let the eyes shut.
And notice what it feels like to be in your body.
And when you're ready,
You might bring the attention to your breath and just notice what that feels like.
Noticing how the body is responding to the breath.
Noticing what it feels like in the body.
You don't need to do anything differently.
The only thing you need to do is notice.
And so we're just continuing to breathe in and out through the nose.
Noticing on the inhale that the belly rises up and on the exhale that it falls back towards our spine.
So just continue with this breath.
And take this as your opportunity to take a deep breath.
And take this as your opportunity to befriend the breath.
And so on your next inhale,
Just allow the body to fill up with air.
And when you can't fill up anymore,
Just hold the breath at the top of your body.
And you're just holding the breath at the top for about five counts.
And then when you're done with that,
You can just let the breath go.
And just notice what it feels like afterwards.
And so again,
On your next inhale,
Take a deep inhale through the nose.
And just let the breath go.
And just take a deep inhale through the nose,
Holding the breath at the top for about five counts.
Notice if there's tension in the body and do your best to release that.
And when you do,
Just take an exhale through the nose and let it all go.
And just notice how the body is responding.
So on your next inhale,
Take a deep inhale through the nose,
Holding the breath at the top.
Allow the muscles in the body to relax.
And you can decide when it's time to let the breath go.
And whenever you decide,
Just allow yourself to pay attention to notice what it feels like afterwards.
And so you're just letting the breath move through the body very gently,
Just noticing what it feels like.
And what you might notice is that now with every exhale,
You fall a little bit deeper into the body.
And so we're going to bring the attention now to the top of the head.
And all you're doing is just focusing on this area,
Just noticing whatever you notice about it.
In ancestral tradition,
This space is called the Ori.
It is our divine connection to God and to understanding all that we are.
This is also the space that helps us to govern all the right steps to take in order to experience our highest destiny.
And so take a moment with this space.
This information might be a new introduction.
And so just take a moment to be in connection.
And so through this space,
We have the opportunity to invite our ancestors in to our bodies,
Into our minds,
Our hearts.
And so just allow a moment for that to happen.
And you might affirm to yourself and to your ancestors,
We belong here.
And so you're just taking the next few moments to notice if there are any visuals of faces,
Any names that come to mind of ancestors who might be sharing this time and this space with you.
And so we're just going to slowly allow the attention to move down the body.
We're starting at the head.
And with every exhale,
We're just going to move down a little bit.
And so you can move down with the exhale towards the nose.
So we're passing the eyes,
The cheeks.
And on your next exhale,
Just allowing the attention to move from the nose down the mouth towards the jaw.
And with the next exhale from the top of the head down the back of the head down to the neck.
And just notice what this space feels like.
And if you find any areas that are full of tension any muscles that are attempting to hold themselves up.
You can just take a deep inhale through the nose and out of the mouth.
And so with the next exhale just let the attention move down from the neck and head down towards the fingers.
And so we're passing the elbows.
We're passing the wrist.
We're passing the palms and moving down through the fingers and thumbs.
And if you find any spaces,
Any places in this area that has a lot of tension,
You can just take a deep breath in through the nose and release that through your mouth.
And just notice what that feels like.
And so on the next exhale,
We're just going to let the attention move from our shoulders down to our chest and down to our upper back.
You're just taking your opportunity to notice what you notice in this space and if you feel that there's tension,
Just take a deep inhale through the nose and release that through your mouth.
And so just notice what you feel.
Notice the heart.
Notice its vibration.
Notice its pace.
And so from the chest on the next exhale just let the attention move down the sides of the body,
Down the back,
Stopping at the waist,
And then down from the chest into the belly.
And again you're just noticing what you feel,
Noticing what's happening for you.
And so just notice what the breath feels like in the body.
You might notice that the breath has changed pace.
You might notice the breath deepening.
You might even notice the body's willingness to expand with breath.
And so just continue taking this as your opportunity to notice.
And so on your next exhale,
You can just let the attention drop down past the waist to the hips to the thighs to the pelvic area to the butt and just stopping right at the knees and just noticing what you feel here.
And if you find that there's any tension in this space,
The only thing you need to do is take a deep inhale through the nose,
Can let it out through the mouth,
And just let the body relax.
And just notice what you feel.
And so on your next exhale,
Just let the attention move down past the knees and let the attention just rest down in the feet.
So passing the ankles,
Noticing the tops of the feet,
The toes,
The soles of the feet,
Just noticing what that feels like.
And if you find any tension in this space,
Just taking a deep inhale through the nose and releasing that through your mouth.
And so then you might just notice what's happening in this space.
And so now that you have the whole body and mind,
Just let the attention move to any place that needs a little bit more time that needs a little bit more attention.
And whenever you get there,
Just take a deep inhale through the nose and just let that out through your mouth with a sigh.
And so do that again,
Two more times in this space,
A deep inhale through the nose and an exhale through the mouth.
And one more deep inhale through the nose,
Holding it at the top and letting it go whenever you're ready to.
And so there's an opportunity to stay in this particular space or to move to one more space in the body that needs a little bit more of your attention.
And so whatever you decide,
Just make your way there and take a deep inhale through the nose and an exhale through your mouth.
And again,
Taking a deep inhale through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.
And another deep inhale through the nose,
Holding the breath at the top and whenever you're ready,
Just allowing that to release.
And so just notice what it feels like to have your body relaxing.
And so bring the attention to the heart,
To the heart center,
To the space in the chest.
Really do your best to notice what this feels like.
Notice every little thing you can notice about the heart.
Remember that there's no need to judge what you feel,
What you notice.
The only thing we're doing is just taking a look.
And so in this heart space,
Just take the next few moments to notice what you notice.
And if you want to take this as your opportunity to communicate and connect with the ancestors,
That is available to you as well.
And so that might sound like,
What is it that I need to do in order to take the best care of myself?
And then you're just listening for the answer.
And so just continue to be in this space.
And if you've gotten an answer from your ancestors,
Just take this moment to feel that answer,
To feel that response in the body.
And so by taking this opportunity to feel the response in the body,
We might have a clue as to how this healing might feel for us.
What experiences we might have in the mind,
In the body,
Just based on trusting the answer.
And so you can let the attention rest in the body.
And on your next inhale,
Just take a deep inhale as deeply as you've inhaled,
Holding the breath at the top,
Allowing the muscles to relax.
And when you're ready,
Just allowing the breath to release.
And you might bring a little bit of movement into the toes.
You might bring some movement into the fingers.
And just do this as slowly as you can,
Just knowing that you have all the time you need.
And if you decide to stay in this meditation,
Please feel free to.
And so you might even bring a little bit of a movement into the throat by just affirming out loud,

And when you're ready,
You can roll over onto either your right or your left side and just get there and just notice what you notice.
And just take as much time as you need to.
