It's all about you,
How the separated self creates a character.
All right,
Let's talk about you.
Everyone in the illusion is constantly and consistently tuned into the same radio station.
You do remember radios,
Don't you?
They were those amazing devices that you'd do other things like cook or drive or garden or anything while you got information.
What a concept.
Well,
The radio station I'm referring to is WII-FM,
I'll say it again,
WII-FM.
So what does WII-FM stand for?
What's in it for me?
Let me say it again.
What's in it for me?
And hey,
There's nothing wrong with that.
It's just how our individualistic separated minds work.
When we're caught up in the illusion of separation,
Everything revolves around ourselves.
I mean,
It's natural,
Right?
Of course,
I'm not talking about being selfless or compassionate,
But in our everyday lives,
We're always thinking about ourselves,
Consciously or unconsciously.
You see,
There's always a subject and an object,
All the time.
When we're in this separated state or illusion,
Everything we deal with is seen through the lens of subject and object.
Like there's me speaking to you right now.
There's me drinking coffee.
There's me making decisions.
There's me deciding about my future.
There's me regretting my past.
There's me trying to control the uncontrollable and on and on and on.
It's just the way it is.
There's nothing wrong with it.
Everything is centered around what's in it for me.
That's WII-FM,
As I said.
There is nothing wrong with that perspective.
It's just the,
Quote,
Reality in the separated state.
But here's the interesting part.
When we start to awaken from this dream state,
The sense of you starts to fade away.
The relationship to self starts to change.
It's almost as if the self begins to evaporate.
And that's one of the reasons why those who start to wake up often talk about experiencing a profound sense of oneness with everything.
It's not just some mystical experience.
It's about realizing that the separation between you and others,
You and objects,
Starts to actually dissolve.
It becomes less about you and more about what is happening.
The crazy thing is that it's almost as if it's happening to nobody because the self is beginning to fade away.
Think about how the evaporation of the illusory self can change everything in life.
Just think about that.
The evaporation of the illusory self can change everything in life.
What would the experience of life be without a you?
I know there's still a lot more to explore on this topic,
But let's just pause for a moment and see what you might be thinking right now.
How does the idea of what's in it for me resonate with you?
You might be thinking of the idea of self-shrinking or pivoting in a way.
That's an interesting way to put it.
As you awaken,
The separated self,
The ego,
Starts to pivot or it starts to shrink.
It's like it loses its grip on your identity.
This self-shrinking or pivoting is all a process.
Sometimes it's like a flash and other times it can be a very gradual process.
Remember,
There is no right or wrong answer here.
We're just having a conversation and sharing some perspectives.
You might be thinking about how this lessening of the subject-object reality affects living in duality and the practical need to,
Say,
Pay bills,
Pick up the kids,
Exercise,
Do household responsibilities,
And so forth.
I totally get that.
The fear of,
Who would I be without my self-concept and actually live my life at the same time?
It's kind of mind-boggling,
To be honest.
It's a fear of the unknown that many of us hold onto,
And that is all good.
We're all at different stages of our evolution,
Therefore dealing with everyday reality in the illusion from a unified or non-self perspective truly cannot be explained because it is out of the separated self.
It is an experience and not really an understanding.
I would love to explain it,
But I can't.
Here's the thing.
Beliefs about ourselves shape all our actions and thoughts,
Now and in the future.
When you change your perception,
It naturally changes how you act and how you think.
It's like a shift in your whole outlook.
And that's what a miracle is,
According to A Course in Miracles,
A change in your perception.
So don't be afraid to challenge the beliefs you have of yourself and begin to see things from a different angle,
Because then you might just have a miracle.
I know that these concepts can be challenging to sit with,
But I encourage you to take the time to let everything that we've just talked about,
Just let it marinate.
Just sit with it.
So let's keep this conversation going.
Feel free to share your thoughts and your questions and even disagreements.
I always welcome disagreements.
This isn't about me preaching or seeking validation in any way.
It's an open dialogue where we explore the nature of what the you is and how the I influences everything in our lives.
