Welcome.
As we begin this practice,
Taking a few moments to settle into a position that allows your body to be both comfortable and awake.
Most often this practice is done lying on the back.
Allowing the legs to extend comfortably and the arms to rest alongside the body,
Perhaps with the palms facing upward if that feels natural.
If lying on your back isn't comfortable today,
Allowing yourself to choose a position that best supports your body.
There is no single correct posture.
The invitation is simply to find a position that you can remain in with relative ease,
Making adjustments now that may allow you to be still for a period of time.
If it feels comfortable,
Allowing the eyes to gently close or lowering the gaze slightly.
Taking a moment to recognize that you've made this time for yourself,
Not to accomplish anything,
Not to achieve a particular state,
Simply to practice being present with your experience just as it is.
Beginning by becoming aware of the natural rhythm of breathing.
There's no need to breathe differently.
No need to deepen or lengthen the breath.
Simply allowing yourself to become familiar with the sensations of breathing exactly as they are in this moment.
Perhaps becoming aware of the movement of the abdomen or the chest or the feeling of air passing through the nostrils or somewhere entirely different in the body.
Choosing whatever place the breath is most vivid for you today.
Allowing attention to rest there for several breaths,
Not forcing your attention to stay.
Simply returning whenever you become aware that the mind has wandered again and again with patience.
Now gradually allowing awareness to widen beyond the breath,
Including the entire body lying here.
Perhaps sensing the weight of the body being supported by the surface beneath you.
Feeling the places where your body makes contact.
The heels,
The backs of the legs,
The hips,
The back.
The shoulders.
The arms,
The back of the head.
Allowing yourself to receive the support that is already here.
There's nothing you need to hold up for these next few moments.
Simply allowing the body to be supported.
As thoughts naturally arise,
Memories,
Plans.
Thinking and judgment or maybe moments of distraction.
Seeing if it's possible to acknowledge them with kindness,
Without needing to follow them,
And without needing to push them away.
Each time you become aware that attention has wandered.
Gently escorting it back.
Perhaps returning first to the sensations of breathing.
Allowing the breath to steady awareness.
And then continuing with the practice.
There's no need to judge how often the mind wanders.
Beginning again is the practice.
You Now allowing awareness to gather in the toes of the left foot.
Not trying to create sensation.
Simply becoming interested in whatever is already here.
You perhaps sensations of warmth or coolness.
Pressure.
Tingling.
Contact with clothing.
Or perhaps very little sensation at all.
Whatever you discover.
Allowing it to be exactly as it is.
There's nothing you need to change.

Simply resting awareness here for a little while.
You you gradually allowing awareness to include the entire left foot.

And times when sensations are subtle or difficult to detect.
Each experience is simply another opportunity to practice awareness.
Allowing awareness to move slowly into the lower left leg.

And the place where the leg joins the pelvis.
Perhaps sensing the entire left leg now.

Holding the whole leg in awareness.
Noticing whatever is present.
Allowing the breath to continue in the background.
Allowing the body to remain supported.
Allowing awareness simply to rest.
Now gently allowing awareness to leave the left leg.
There's no need to hold on to any particular sensations.
No need to compare one side of the body with the other.
Simply allowing awareness to begin again.
This time with the toes of the right foot.
Beginning fresh.
Just as if this were the first place you visited today.
Allowing awareness to rest with the toes of the right foot,
Perhaps becoming aware of sensations of contact.
