Meditation Timer OnlineMatthew Lyon has spent a lifetime listening for the spaces between notes. Based in the Mission Valley of western Montana, he creates sparse, contemplative instrumental music rooted in the quiet traditions of Celtic melody and the wide stillness of the northern Rockies. His recordings feature Celtic harp and other acoustic instruments layered with subtle electronics; looping: field recordings, and carefully chosen atmospheres building intimate sonic landscapes that invite rest, reflection, and unhurried presence. Matthew's background includes five independently released instrumental albums, end-of-life and memory care music work, and decades of teaching and community building around contemplative music. Following open-heart surgery several years ago, his relationship to music changed profoundly. Recovery brought a need for simplicity, spaciousness, and emotional honesty. Quiet acoustic instruments became less about artistry and more about steadiness and human warmth. Map of Quiet is the result, music made with restraint and sincerity for people who need a moment of genuine stillness. Not transcendence. Not escape. Just a quiet place to breathe. His influences range from Brian Eno and Laraaji to traditional music from a variety of cultures, always returning to the same essential question: what is the least that needs to be said? Map of Quiet releases new music regularly for meditation, rest, and contemplative practice.
