The Three of Swords tarot card is a symbol of confronting emotional turmoil and working through challenges with bravery and clarity of mind.

It invites us to not only face our troubles head on,

But also to communicate honestly about our fears and uncertainties.

In this active imagination exercise,

We will navigate the energies of the Three of Swords seeking to find strength in adversity,

Clarity amidst confusion,

And the courage to speak our truths no matter the cost.

So first just find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lie down.

Close your eyes.

And just taking some deep breaths,

Allowing your mind and body to relax.

Keep your attention on the breath.

And if at any point you get distracted,

Simply bring the attention back to the exercise.

And now imagine yourself in a landscape that symbolizes your current emotional state or a challenging situation you're facing.

Now allow all the details to form spontaneously.

Take a look around and see what you notice.

Notice the colors of the place you're in,

The terrain,

Perhaps the weather.

Notice how it reflects your current emotional state.

As you explore this landscape,

You encounter three enormous swords,

Each representing a different aspect of your emotional turmoil or the challenges you're facing.

Take a moment to examine the swords from a distance,

Observing their size,

Their range of motion,

Appearance,

And the way they're positioned.

Approach the first sword,

Representing a particular challenge or source of emotional pain.

Engage with the sword however you choose.

You might hold it by the hilt or just observe it closely.

And as you do,

Ask yourself,

What is the core of this issue?

How has it affected my peace of mind?

And after you've done that,

Now move to the second sword,

Representing another particular challenge or source of emotional pain.

Engage with the second sword similarly and ask yourself,

How can I confront this issue with clarity?

What steps can I take to work through this?

And what is the key to this?

Once you've done that,

Now proceed to the third sword,

Representing the overall emotional atmosphere surrounding your situation.

Engage with the sword in a way that feels right to you and ask yourself,

What fears or anxieties are holding me back?

How can I communicate my feelings honestly yet constructively?

And now take a step back and now take a step back and observe the entire scene,

Including the swords.

Imagine you have the power to transform or rearrange these swords.

You might envision these swords disentangling,

Shifting,

Or dissolving,

Or perhaps transforming into an altogether different symbol.

Or perhaps transforming into an altogether different symbol.

As you engage with the swords,

Notice how this alters the scene around you.

How does it change?

Perhaps there are clouds dispersing,

Perhaps the sun is rising.

Does the scene feel lighter?

Or is there a sense of calm descending?

Simply notice whatever you happen to notice.

Simply notice whatever you happen to notice.

So as we draw this exercise to a close,

Just briefly express gratitude for the experience and any insights gained.

And it is recommended to journal after the exercise.

And it is recommended to journal after the exercise.

Recording any insights,

Emotions,

Or realizations that emerged during the exercise.

So just bringing your attention back to the room now.

Noticing any sounds or sensations.

Taking a deep breath and opening your eyes again in your own time.
