This guided meditation is a radical version of a "Do Nothing" meditation. Inspired by the Zen practice of "shikantaza" (just sitting), the only instruction for this "non-meditation" meditation is to allow whatever happens to happen. In addition, this guided meditation is peppered with poetry, non-dual glimpse practices, and some self-inquiry thrown in for good measure.

Okay,

So I'm just going to begin then.

And as I've been doing the last couple of weeks,

I will begin this before actually sitting.

I will read this short or medium length excerpt from Alan Watts to sort of like set the stage for this do nothing meditation and this group.

So I'll read this excerpt from Watts and then I will ring the bell and transition straight to the guided meditation.

So I'm gonna find a comfortable posture and let's begin.

So Alan Watts,

Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.

And therefore,

If you meditate for an ulterior motive,

That is to say to improve your mind,

To improve your character,

To be more efficient in life,

You've got your eye on the future and you are not meditating.

It's funny then isn't it that one meditates for no reason at all,

Except we could say for the enjoyment of it.

And here I would interpose the essential principle that meditation is supposed to be fun.

Meditation when correctly done is a kind of digging in the present.

It's a kind of grooving with the eternal now.

And it brings us into a state of peace where we can understand that the point of life,

The place where it's at is simply here and now.

So as we begin this meditation,

Let us give ourselves permission to allow whatever happens during this sit to happen.

If the mind is agitated,

Let it agitate itself.

If it's calm,

Let it be calm.

If there's resistance,

Allow resistance to be here.

Simply see if for only the next few moments,

We can sit here not trying to get anywhere or achieve anything,

But simply sitting here with whatever is.

So let us practice in that way for a few moments.

Thank you.

Thank you.

When the soul lies down in that grass,

The world is too full to talk about.

Ideas,

Language,

Even the phrase each other,

Don't make any sense.

One of the better guided meditations on this app. Does not follow the usual formula. A breath of fresh air.
