
Ocean's Breath

The ocean can be said to represent our unconscious and all that is beyond our understanding. This meditation works with the rhythmic waves and conscious intentions of our inner oceans. Use this meditation to aid relaxation and float away into a dreamy and calm state, leaving you steady and centred afterwards.

Welcome to day one,
Ocean's Breath Meditation.
So finding a comfortable seat,
Making sure that you're sitting evenly.
And both of your hands are facing upwards,
Palms facing up towards the sky.
Just making an extra check that you're completely comfortable.
Making any adjustments now so that you're not need to move for the rest of the meditation.
Beginning to close your eyes as we start to turn our focus inwards.
Allowing the lips to gently close.
Today's meditation will be allowing the breath in and out of the nose.
Allowing all of our awareness to start to fall down into the feet.
Just allowing your awareness to drop gently into your right foot.
Take a deep inhale here.
And as you exhale,
Just holding your right foot in your mind as you exhale.
Inhaling awareness into your left foot.
Exhaling into your left foot.
Inhaling into your right ankle.
Exhaling right ankle.
Inhaling left ankle.
Inhaling left ankle.
Inhaling both legs together.
Exhaling both legs together.
Inhaling right hip.
Exhaling right hip.
Exhaling left hip.
Exhaling left hip.
Inhaling both hips together.
Exhaling both hips together.
Inhaling holding awareness of the whole of the lower body.
Inhaling allowing your awareness to remain in the whole of the lower body.
Inhaling into the belly and lower back.
Exhaling into belly and lower back.
Inhaling into the ribcage and middle back.
Inhaling into the upper chest and upper back.
Exhaling into the upper parts of the torso.
Inhaling into left shoulder.
Exhaling into left shoulder.
Inhaling into right shoulder.
Exhaling into right shoulder.
Inhaling into both arms all the way to the wrists.

Feeling your awareness all the way into the palms.

Inhale filling the whole of the head.

Inhaling now for a count of four,

Take a deep cleansing inhale.
And now just exhale out through the mouth.
Allow the lips to close.
Just for a moment check in with the body.
Notice any sensations.
And now I invite you to come into the mind.
I'd like you to find yourself at the top of a staircase.
Look at the staircase.
Examine the colour,
Texture,
Material.
And when you're ready start to gently walk down the staircase.
When you reach the bottom of the staircase there will be a door.
Again notice the door.
Take in as much detail as possible.
Place your hand onto the door.
Take an inhale.
And as you exhale open the door and step through.
You find yourself standing on a beach.
You are in the middle of the beach.
You are halfway between the ocean and the cliffs behind you.
And you stand looking out towards the ocean.
In your vision you can choose to sit or stand in whichever way is comfortable for you.
Keep looking out at the ocean.
You start again to breathe on a count of four,

Two,
One.
Exhaling four,

Watching the ocean as you inhale two,
One.
Watching as you exhale for two and one.
Inhaling four,

Exhaling four,

As you watch the ocean you start to notice that there is a connection between the lull of the ocean and your breath.
As you inhale you see the waves gently move away from you towards the horizon.
And as you exhale you feel as though your breath is quietly pulling the waves towards you,
Allowing them to break onto the shore.
We'll add a count for this.
So as you inhale sending the waves away from you for four,

Two,
One.
Hold the breath here as you look to the horizon.
Two,
One.
Exhale four,
Waves coming towards you.
Three,
Two,
One.
Hold the breath out.
Three,
Two,
One.
Inhale,
Waves away.
Three,
Two,

Hold the breath out,
Look into the distance.
Three,

Exhale,
See the waves coming towards you.

Again inhaling,
Waves moving.

Waves stretching away from you.

Let yourself exhale as the waves wash towards you and hold out your exhale.

Take an inhale now,
Full breath.
As big as you can take into your lungs and now open your mouth and exhale.
Allow your lips to close.
Have an awareness of yourself sitting looking out at the ocean but now in your physical body become acutely aware of your hands,
Your palms,
Your left palm and your right palm.
Sending your awareness down into your palms.
And in your left hand now we keep our awareness.
So we hold all our awareness in our left hand.
Our left hand on our physical body and our left hand in our mind,
In our vision,
Sitting looking out at the ocean.
And into this left hand I would like you to place an intention that you would like to offer the world today.
A quality,
An action,
An emotion.
There is no wrong answer.
When you have found that let it form in your mind as one word.
Take an inhale and as you exhale feel that intention settle into your left hand.
Move your awareness to your right hand.
In this hand I invite you to create an intention that will fuel you.
Something that will help you grow and will nurture you today.
Whatever comes into your mind is the right answer and when you found it gently see it settle into your right hand.
So we have two intentions.
The left hand is for the inhale what we will send out into the world and the right hand is for the exhale.
What will we invite into our beings?
Find yourself sitting in your beautiful beach looking out at the ocean.
Take a deep inhale and as you inhale once again feel that beautiful expansion of the waves as they move away from you.
And as you exhale gently feel them rolling back towards the shore.
Now as you inhale you're going to gently allow both hands to open softly.
As you exhale gently allow your fingers to close as though you're just bringing your fingers a little bit in towards your palms.
They don't have to completely shut.
So as you inhale your fingers move away from your palms and is wide and as you exhale you just soften your hands slightly.
So we begin with our counting breath inhaling for four,

Sending the waves away,
Two,
Opening the hands,
One,
Hold your breath here,
Three,

One,
Exhaling,
Four,
Waves coming in,
Three,
Closing the hands,
Two,

Hold the breath out,

We add our intention inhaling our intention out into the world,
Waves moving away from us,

Closing our fingers inviting our intention that we need to nourish us today,

Inhale opening intention moving across the waves hold the breath,

Exhale allowing welcoming the intention that you set back into your hands as they close holding here,

We're going to keep this going and you can work with either the waves,
The intentions,
The counting,
Whichever resonates with you the most or maybe all three.

Take a deep inhale and release your fingers as you exhale out through the mouth softly just bring your hands off your lap to join together they can come together in any way that feels comfortable in a prayer and just palms wide just connecting right and left palm and this joining of the palms just symbolizes that joining of your intentions that offering intention out and that softening and welcoming intention inwards your intentions have been moving within this ocean so this ocean has been holding your intentions and as it has moved your breath and your intention have been working in harmony with one another your inner ocean of intention and your breath working in a perfect harmonious balance that is accessible to you whenever you need it begin to softly walk back towards your door place a hand onto your door take an inhale and gently exhale and step through begin to walk up your staircase and then very softly start to allow your palms to gently rub towards one another take a deep inhale and a big cleansing exhale place your left hand on your heart and then your right knowing that you have this inner world of intention within you knowing that your inner rhythm and your ocean breath are all connected and as you breathe today allowing your intention to flow out on the inhale and whatever you have called for today to come back towards you on the exhale allowing there to be a link between your breath and your intention and allowing your awareness to acknowledge that now slowly begin to open your eyes well done have a beautiful day
