Psalm 90 is a sacred hymn of reflection attributed to Moses,

The man of God.

It is a prayer that speaks to the heart of human frailty while exalting the eternal nature of the Divine.

It is a psalm of humility,

A recognition of life's brevity and an invitation to find refuge in God who is beyond time.

In our modern world,

Where anxiety and uncertainty pervade our daily lives,

This passage calls us to pause and embrace the comfort of Divine wisdom.

As we journey through its verses,

May we find solace,

Strength and the courage to trust in the eternal presence of the Holy One.

Psalm 90 Lord,

You have been our dwelling place in all generations.

Before the mountains were brought forth,

Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting,

You are God.

You turn man to destruction and say,

Return,

O children of men.

For the thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past,

And like a watch in the night.

You carry them away like a flood.

They are like sheep.

In the morning they are like grass which grows up.

In the morning it flourishes and grows up,

In the evening it is cut down and withers.

For we have been consumed by Your anger and by Your wrath we are terrified.

You have set our iniquities before You,

Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

For all our days have passed away in Your wrath,

We finish our years like a sigh.

The days of our lives are seventy years,

And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,

Yet their boast is only labour and sorrow,

For it is soon cut off and we fly away.

Who knows the power of Your anger?

For as the fear of You,

So is Your wrath.

So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Return,

O Lord,

How long,

And have compassion on Your servants.

O,

Satisfy us early with Your mercy that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us,

The years in which we have seen evil.

Let Your work appear to Your servants and Your glory to their children.

And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands for us.

Yes,

Establish the work of our hands.

Lord,

You have been our dwelling place in all generations.

What a profound truth!

Before we were even born,

Before our ancestors walked this earth,

God has been our home.

In a world that often feels transient and unstable,

We long for something steadfast.

This verse reassures us that God is our constant shelter,

Our place of belonging.

Whether we find ourselves in joy or sorrow,

We are held in the loving embrace of the Divine.

Take a moment to breathe deeply and affirm,

I am always at home in God.

Verse 2 Before the mountains were brought forth,

Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting,

You are God.

Time is one of the greatest mysteries of existence.

We measure our lives in years,

But God exists beyond the constraints of time.

This verse reminds us that while our lives are fleeting,

God's presence is eternal.

We can trust in a love that has no beginning and no end.

In moments of change,

When we feel lost in the tides of time,

We can anchor ourselves in this truth,

God's love is unchanging and I am part of something eternal.

Verses 3-6 You turn man to destruction and say the turn,

O children of men.

For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past,

And like a watch in the night.

You carry them away like a flood.

They are like sheep.

In the morning they are like grass which grows up.

In the morning it flourishes and grows up,

In the evening it is cut down and withers.

The Fleeting Nature of Life These verses acknowledge the impermanence of human life.

Like grass that flourishes in the morning and fades by evening,

Our days are numbered.

Yet,

Rather than despair,

This realization invites us to live with greater mindfulness.

It urges us to cherish each moment,

To cultivate love and to seek wisdom in how we spend our time.

As we reflect,

Let us whisper.

Each moment is precious.

I choose to live fully and with purpose.

Verses 7-11 For we have been consumed by your anger and by your wrath we are terrified.

The weight of our actions.

These verses speak to accountability.

Our choices matter.

The ways in which we harm ourselves and others are not hidden from God.

Yet,

Rather than being a source of fear,

This awareness can lead us to grace and transformation.

When we bring our shortcomings into the light,

We open ourselves to healing and renewal.

With a gentle heart,

Let us affirm.

I face my shortcomings with honesty,

Knowing that forgiveness and transformation are always possible.

So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

What does it mean to number our days?

It means living with intention.

It means valuing time not as something to be spent thoughtlessly,

But as a sacred gift.

When we cultivate wisdom,

We learn to focus on what truly matters.

Love,

Kindness,

Integrity and faith.

Take a deep breath and reflect.

I choose to live wisely,

Cherishing each day as a sacred gift.

Return,

O Lord,

How long and have compassion on your servants.

In these verses we find the heart's longing for divine mercy and joy.

We think at times that life brings suffering.

But through God's presence we can find gladness even in our perceived hardships.

We ask that God's beauty be upon us and that our work,

Our actions,

Our service,

Our love be established as something lasting and meaningful.

In prayerful hope we whisper,

May my work be meaningful.

May my life reflect divine beauty.

As we close this meditation,

Let us offer a prayer.

Eternal God,

Our refuge from age to age.

Teach us to dwell in your presence with trust and peace.

Remind us that life is fleeting yet filled with purpose.

Guide us to live wisely,

To love deeply and to embrace each day as a sacred gift.

Let your beauty rest upon us and may the work of your hands be a reflection of your love.

In moments of uncertainty,

Be our steady rock.

In moments of joy,

Be our song.

In all things,

May we rest in the truth that you are from everlasting to everlasting.

Amen.
