This is a guided meditation designed to help you cultivate greater ease when working with a difficult person in your life. This could be someone from your workplace or personal life. My intention is to journey with you—to guide and support you—as you bring this person to mind. Together, we will send them thoughts of loving-kindness. This meditation incorporates breathing exercises from the Plum Village tradition, the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, and loving-kindness practices. By the end of the meditation, you may feel more grounded and at ease in how you relate to this person. Over time, you might begin to notice a greater sense of calm and peace in your interactions with them. May you be strong. May you be at ease. May you be happy.

My name is Leonie Lam and I am a career coach,

Corporate trainer and speaker.

The purpose of this meditation is to help you be at ease with someone who is challenging you right now.

I personally wish you peace and success in working with this person.

Please close your eyes as it will help you feel more connected with yourself.

I will invite a sound of a bell to begin our practice together.

Sitting in a chair or sitting on the ground,

Visualize you are sitting like a mountain.

Tall and strong like a mountain.

Take a moment to make yourself a little bit more comfortable.

We will begin with three rounds of breathing exercises.

Silently repeat these words as you breathe in and out.

Breathing in,

I know I am breathing in.

Breathing out,

I know I am breathing out.

Breathing in,

I know I am breathing in.

Breathing out,

I know I am breathing out.

Breathing in,

I know I am breathing in.

Breathing out,

I know I am breathing out.

Slowly think of a person who is challenging you at the moment.

It may be a person at work.

It may be a family member.

It may be a dear friend.

You may notice that your body is feeling uncomfortable.

Your breathing may be short.

Your heart may feel slightly heavy.

These are normal body sensations.

Be easy on yourself.

Sometimes,

People who challenge us are our teachers.

If you look deeply,

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned.

I invite you to think of one or two positive qualities about this person.

Perhaps they are knowledgeable.

Perhaps they are good communicators.

Perhaps they are smart.

If there is a lesson to be learned from this person,

What would it be?

Maybe you need to learn to stand up for yourself.

Maybe you need to be more assertive.

Maybe you need to change the way you work with them.

Let's imagine this person may have some personal problems in their life.

They may feel loneliness,

Sadness,

And isolation.

They are suffering deeply and no one knows.

Now,

I invite you to send loving,

Kind thoughts to them.

You can do this by simply wishing them well.

I wish you peace and happiness.

I wish you peace and happiness.

Sending loving,

Kind thoughts can be very helpful.

Next time you interact with this person,

You might feel a little lighter towards them.

Slowly bringing your attention back into your body.

Noticing all your body sensations.

Noticing the physical space around you.

Thank yourself for making time for this practice.

And silently say,

I am grateful.

I am grateful.

Thank you for having the courage to practice with me.

I personally wish you peace and success in working with this person.

May you be at peace.

May you be happy.
