Welcome to In the Flow with Lori Albert,
A brief,
Positivity-inspiring chat and meditation designed to uplift and motivate us to live our best lives.
Let's get in the flow.
I don't know about you guys,
But I pretty much blew it over the holidays with my meditation schedule.
Right?
I did not and I hate it when I forgot.
It's not that I even forgot because I don't forget to meditate.
But things will happen and I'll be like,
Okay,
I'll go meditate later or whatever.
So I just blew it.
My schedule is off.
I love the holidays,
But goodness,
I hate when I do that because meditation keeps me grounded.
I mean,
That's my whole thing.
Right?
So anyway,
I hate that.
So today we're going to purge all of those negative feelings and we're going to clear our minds.
Oh yeah.
Right?
We're going to chant one of my favorite chants of like all time.
Okay.
And I'm sure that some of you knew it,
Know it.
Some of you know this chant,
But I'm going to explain it because it's so,
Dare I say the word dramatic to me it is right.
It's just so perfect.
Anyway,
It's Om Mani Padme Hum.
It's a Tibetan Buddhist chant.
Okay.
And this is what the Dalai Lama says about it.
Okay.
He says that this chant has the power to transform your impure body,
Speech and mind into a pure body,
Speech and mind of a Buddha.
I mean,
Who doesn't want that?
Right?
Seriously,
Right?
Okay.
So this is kind of what it means.
Okay.
Om.
It's the purest sound that there is.
Okay.
Om is the sound of all the universe and it's completely cleansing.
It's a very complex sound that encompasses all of the sounds of the universe.
Right?
And so you don't just go Om.
You go Aum.
So it somehow is all of the sounds of the universe.
Okay.
And then there's Mani.
Mani means jewel in Sanskrit.
Okay.
And whenever you say Mani,
It helps if you repeat it,
It helps to rid you of the egocentric ways.
Right?
And I don't mean egocentric necessarily like,
Oh,
I'm better than you kind of egocentric way.
I mean,
Like the ego within us.
Right?
It means purity.
Okay.
So a jewel is purity.
Right?
Okay.
So then there is Padmi,
Which means lotus in Sanskrit.
Okay.
And that represents wisdom and it helps to create the way for wisdom to enter into us.
Okay.
Then finally,
Hum purifies us from the negativity,
But it also means love and kindness and compassion.
Okay.
So now here's the bottom line to this mantra.
Altogether,
It means the jewel is in the lotus.
Okay.
And this really signifies us shedding our egocentric ways.
You know,
And when I say egocentric,
I think also that I didn't say a minute ago,
I think it also means egocentric ways,
Meaning like I'm not as good as anybody else or I'm wrong or I screwed up.
Those types of things as well.
Right.
Interesting.
And it invites in the wisdom.
Okay.
So now you can think of it this way.
And this is my,
You know what,
I'm sure that somebody else came up with this.
I don't know who to attribute it to.
Right.
But this is my sort of thought on this particular mantra.
Om Mani Padmi Hum.
Okay.
So a lotus flower is gorgeous.
Okay.
It sits on top of a pond.
Right.
So,
And what it is,
Is like,
If you notice,
Like whenever you see stuff about meditation or yoga and that sort of thing,
You see a lotus flower because the lotus flower represents wisdom and beauty.
It's perfection in a sense.
Right.
So it's perfect.
But all of that perfection and all of that beauty comes from underneath,
Like the roots from the lotus.
I know some of you probably already know this,
But it comes from deep down in the roots go way down and it's formed through the mud and the muck.
Right.
So there's all of this mud and muck at the bottom of the pond.
Now,
What I like to think of is all of that mud and muck,
It seems negative and dirty blah blah blah,
But it's also nourishing.
So when I think of this particular mantra,
I think that our negative experiences are bad experiences that we have all of that junk that we have underneath there.
They create who we are.
And as we rise above those terrible things that happened to us,
Because we all have junk that has happened to us in our whole entire life,
We transcend ourselves.
We have the ability to transcend ourselves and get out of that muck and create the beauty,
Which is the lotus.
And you can say all of those sort of things out of the darkness comes light and out of our lessons and the bad things that happened to us,
Create us as to who we are,
You can say all of that,
Whatever.
And that's the beauty of it.
Sorry to say,
But that's the beauty of it.
It's what it means to you.
Right.
It's what it means to you.
So as we repeat it over and over again,
It allows us to consider what I just said that the Dalai Lama has said about this mantra.
It has the power to transform us and transform our impure body,
Mind and speech into a pure body,
Speech and mind of a Buddha.
So let's get ready to chant.
I love it.
Okay,
So I have my Shruti box.
The noise that you're going to hear is yes,
It's a droning sound,
But it's to help us get into the chant.
Okay.
It is not my computer making sounds or your computer making sounds for that matter.
Right.
So let's all take a deep breath in.
You can sing along.
You can hum.
You can just say it or you can just say it in your minds.
Whatever it works for you is how it is best for you.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Me.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Money.
Me.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Me.
Oh,
Me.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Oh,
Money.
Me.
Oh,
Money.
Just stay.
