If you haven't been initiated a mantra, no worries. You can choose your own mantra such as peace, calm, relax, OM, let go, surrender, quiet - really, whatever word feels best to you in this moment. For this meditation, we'll use the word, love. Reciting a mantra silently is a wonderful way to keep the mind focused on one thing. When thoughts come up (which they will), just gently bring yourself back to reciting your mantra. Mantras can be recited during meditation, but also silently throughout your day at any time.

Mantra Meditation For this meditation,

You'll want to think of a word or a phrase that resonates with you.

A word can be something like relax,

Soften,

Calm,

Compassion,

Peace.

A phrase can be something like let go or let it be,

Whatever feels right.

It can also be an affirmation.

It can be the sound om or the sound so hum.

Whatever that word or phrase is,

Make sure that it's positive.

Finding a comfortable seat,

Closing the eyes,

Rolling the shoulders up,

Back and down,

Sitting up tall,

Closing your eyes,

Bringing your attention to your breath,

Just following the breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out.

If you are a more intellectual person,

When you recite your mantra,

Imagine it at your third eye.

If you are a more love-driven person,

Imagine your mantra at your heart center.

So for this meditation together,

We'll use the mantra love.

In your mind's eye,

Focusing on that word love,

Love,

Love,

Silently repeating it over and over,

Love,

Love,

Love.

At your own pace,

Noticing how the mantra affects you,

How does it make you feel,

Does the word relax you,

Does the word allow you to open up,

Does the word just feel good.

Notice if your mind wandered away from repeating the mantra,

If it did,

No big deal.

Gently bring the focus back to the word love,

Love,

Love.

This mantra in particular will open your heart center,

It will soften your heart,

It will increase your compassion for others.

You can continue this for as long as you'd like or if you'd like to start over again with a word or phrase of your choice and then whenever you're ready,

Slowly opening your eyes,

Coming back into the room.
