There are moments in life when it feels like everyone else is moving at a pace you can't quite keep up with.
Like something about you didn't organize correctly.
Like you missed a step somewhere.
Like you should be further along by now.
More certain.
More stable.
More healed.
Sometimes the feeling is loud.
And other times it sits quietly in the background,
Shaping how you see yourself without you even realizing it.
You might notice it in comparison or self-criticism.
Or in the subtle sense that you're somehow late to your own life.
When that feeling shows up,
The instinct is almost always the same.
Push harder.
Figure it out.
Fix whatever is wrong.
What goes unseen is that this experience,
The sense of being behind,
Is not evidence that something is broken in you.
It's usually a nervous system state.
A moment where protection,
Pressure,
And perception have organized in a way that has helped.
Nothing about your worth has changed.
Nothing about your capacity has disappeared.
So before we try to solve anything,
Before we try to improve anything,
We're just going to pause together and let your system settle.
Allow your eyes to close now.
There's nothing special you need to do with your body.
Just notice that you're here.
You might begin by feeling the places where your body is supported.
The weight of you being held by whatever you're sitting or lying on.
Just letting gravity do some of the work without forcing your breath in any way.
Just notice that breathing is already happening.
And breathing out.
You don't need to change it.
If your mind is busy,
That's completely okay.
Nothing has gone wrong.
You might bring a gentle curiosity toward your body.
Not searching for anything specific.
Just noticing what sensations are here now.
Maybe there's tension or restlessness.
Maybe there's numbness or heaviness.
Maybe there's ease.
And if the feeling of being behind has been present,
You might gently acknowledge that.
Just noticing that this experience exists.
Seeing if it's possible to bring a small amount of kindness towards yourself in this moment.
Simply because you're human.
You might even imagine what it would feel like if without you needed to be different right now.
Just for these few moments.
No figuring yourself out.
Just breathing.
Allowing your body to settle.
Just a little bit more.
And then letting the exhale be just a bit slower.
Quiet sigh.
Your body already knows how to find ease.
Or just giving it space.
You might notice that even if thoughts are still moving and emotions are still present,
There's a sense of steadiness underneath.
Part of you that isn't rushing.
That isn't behind.
Just awareness itself.
Resting here for a few more breaths.
As we begin to come back.
Taking with you the recognition that you can pause like this.
That your body can shift even a little.
The feeling of being behind is just an experience.
Not the definition of who you are.
When you're ready,
Allow your awareness to widen.
Noticing the room around you.
Taking one more breath.
And allowing your eyes to open.
