Hello and welcome!
My name is Kristina.
I'm so glad you're here for this gratitude meditation.
Sometimes gratitude can feel like something we are told we should feel,
But true gratitude is much simpler.
It's just the gentle act of noticing what is already here.
Not what's missing,
Not what went wrong,
But the quiet goodness that exists alongside everything else.
The warmth of the air,
The simple truth that you are breathing.
Our minds naturally scan for problems.
Gratitude is the gentle counter movement.
It trains us to see small miracles and in doing so our whole experience of life begins to feel lighter and more connected.
In this meditation we won't try to force big feelings.
We'll simply use our senses to touch the texture of this moment and find what's already a gift.
You don't need to be in a perfect mood.
Just bring your curiosity.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable position sitting or lying down.
Allow your body to settle into the support beneath you.
The chair,
The cushion,
The floor.
Let that support hold you fully right now.
When you are ready gently allow your eyes to close.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and let it go with a long slow exhale through the mouth.
One more time breathing in and letting go,
Releasing the day so far.
Now just let your breathing return to its natural rhythm.
Nothing to control,
Nothing to fix.
Just the breath flowing in,
Flowing out like gentle waves.
Bring a small soft smile to your lips.
It doesn't have to be big,
Just a tiny upturn that signals to your whole being it's okay.
We can rest here.
Now I'd like you to bring your awareness to the simple fact that you are alive in this body,
In this moment.
Just that you are here breathing,
Existing.
This is the first and most profound gift.
Let that land softly.
Just the quiet recognition I am here.
Now we are going to gather small simple gratitudes using our senses one by one.
First the sense of sound.
Tune into the world of sound around you.
Without labeling or judging,
Just receive the sounds that are present.
A distant traffic hum,
The song of a bird,
The quiet hum of a room or maybe just the sound of your own breath.
Pick one sound that feels gentle or pleasant and just appreciate it for a moment.
This sound connects you to life.
Silently offer a simple thank you for this sound,
For your ability to hear.
Next the sense of touch.
Bring your attention to the air touching your skin.
Can you feel the temperature?
Slightly cool,
Slightly warm.
Notice the gentle contact where your body meets your clothing,
The fabric against your shoulders,
Your legs.
Notice where your hands are resting.
Feel the texture there.
Find one pleasant or even neutral sensation of touch and silently say thank you for this feeling,
For the sense of touch that connects you to the world.
Now bring your awareness inward to your body.
Let your attention rest gently on your heart space,
The center of your chest.
Imagine you could breathe in and out of your heart.
With each inhale picture a soft warm light glowing there.
With each exhale let that light soften any tension.
Your heart beating faithfully moment after moment without you ever having to ask it.
A silent steady rhythm of life.
Let yourself feel a quiet wave of gratitude for your heart.
Thank you.
From your heart let's send a gentle thought of gratitude outward.
Bring to mind one person,
Someone who has shown you kindness even in a very small way.
It could be a friend,
A family member or even a stranger who once gave you a genuine smile.
Picture them,
Recall that warmth and silently just send them this message.
Thank you.
I see your kindness.
I wish you well.
Feel the connection.
Now widen the circle.
Think of one simple ordinary thing you have access to that makes life a little easier.
A warm bed,
A roof over your head,
A source of water,
Food in a cupboard.
Something we often overlook.
Pick one and feel its quiet sufficiency.
Thank you for this simple comfort.
Finally turn your gratitude toward yourself for showing up today,
For taking this time,
For your own resilience,
Your own desire to grow and find peace.
Just a soft whisper internally.
Thank you,
Self.
I'm glad you are here.
I'm trying.
I am enough.
Rest in this space for a few more full breaths.
No need to reach for anything.
Just soak in the feeling of having enough,
Of being enough.
Right now,
In this moment,
There is nothing lacking.
Just this gentle abundant presence.
Slowly begin to bring your awareness back.
Feel the surface beneath you.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Notice the room around you.
The play of light on your eyelids.
Take a deeper breath in.
And as you exhale,
Maybe let out a sigh.
Gently,
When you are ready,
Open your eyes.
What you've done here is not just a one-time practice.
It's a seed you can water every day.
You can take this simple gentle looking for the good into every moment.
A quiet,
Grateful heart is your home.
And you can return to it any time.
Thank you for meditating with me today.
I wish you a day filled with small beautiful moments.
You only have to notice them.
