Uncertainty is part of life.
That doesn't mean that it's easy.
So if you're struggling with uncertainty,
Here are three ways that mindfulness can help.
Number one,
Ask yourself.
Well,
What am I certain of?
And begin to direct your attention to look for things.
That you do have certainty about.
It even might be as simple as.
.
.
I am certain that I do not know how this is going to go.
I'm certain that I am impatient.
Right now.
I am certain that the sky is blue.
I'm certain I see a tree.
Across the street.
I'm certain I really don't like the uncertainty of needing to wait.
And direct your attention towards a series of things.
That you feel,
Yeah,
You know what,
I am certain about that.
Even if it's,
I'm certain,
I don't like the uncertainty.
I'm certain that this is a terrible feeling.
So that's number one,
Practice looking for things you are certain of.
Number two.
Practice this perspective of.
Just like me?
All beings deal with uncertainty.
Just like me.
Other people also apply for a job and then have to wait to find out if they'll get an interview.
Just like me.
Other people have to wait.
For the test results.
To find out what happens next.
Just like me.
Other people have to wait for the airplane that's delayed and to find out what will happen.
And that That cue,
That reminder of just like me.
It helps us feel less alone.
When we face the uncertainty,
It can help you to feel more connected.
To others who have experienced this pain and the discomfort.
And when we feel less alone,
And when you can take it less personally and simply hold it as This is an experience I am having.
And I am not alone in this.
Just like me.
Other people have also felt this way.
It can help alleviate the discomfort and help us breathe a little more deeply and kind of keep a bigger perspective.
And the third thing that you can practice when you are struggling with uncertainty Self.
Compassion.
That is reminding yourself,
You know what?
I am suffering right now.
This is so uncomfortable.
I'm really struggling.
With the uncertainty that I'm facing right now.
What can I call upon?
Self-care,
Self-kindness,
Self-compassion.
And hold a lot of kindness and compassion for the part of me that is suffering.
That practice of,
Even though this is so hard,
Even though I do not like what is happening right now,
I can see that I right now am a human being who is experiencing discomfort and suffering and I desire that that be relieved.
I wish for you.
That any discomfort you're holding with the uncertainty,
I wish for you that it will be alleviated,
That it will be resolved soon.
I know this is a hard experience and I wish for you,
For your heart to be lightened.
That message that you offer to yourself.
You know,
Sometimes when we are in a sticky situation,
We want to get out of it as fast as possible.
And what we say is,
Can someone please get me out of here?
I don't like what's happening right now.
But with this practice of mindfulness and cultivating self-compassion,
Instead we say,
I am in this situation.
It is hard.
Can I please have some self-compassion for the part of me that is suffering?
I desire that that ache is eased.
And by bringing a little bit of that self love,
That kindness.
We can find more support and breathe a little more easily.
Even when we have to deal with a difficult situation.
So thank you so much for practicing with me today.
I hope you come back again.
Practice anytime you need a reminder of how to support yourself when you're dealing with uncertainty.
