Hi,

This is Carrie.

I'm sure you had a really busy day,

Didn't you?

I'm sure you talked to some people.

Maybe you played with some friends.

Maybe you learned something new.

Maybe you ate something yummy.

Well,

That's a busy day.

And now,

It's time to sleep.

To get into that bed.

Get all nice and cozy.

Your pillow is so soft and comfortable.

Your sheets or blankets feel nice as you snuggle into bed.

Safe and secure.

Quiet and peaceful.

And as you lie there,

Sweetie,

I want to tell you a story.

It's a story about anger.

And you know what?

Everybody gets angry.

Even animals get angry.

Anger is an emotion everybody has.

And I always like to say anger is not always a bad thing.

It's a good thing.

It can motivate you to do something different.

So you won't get angry the next time.

So while you lie there,

I want you to just listen.

Because I'm going to tell you a story about Peyton.

Now Peyton was a cute little girl that loved to play with her favorite doll.

I mean it was her favorite doll.

Do you have a favorite toy?

You probably do.

Well on this one special day,

Peyton was busy playing.

When her sister came into her bedroom and said,

My turn,

My turn.

Her sister grabbed her special doll.

No!

Yelled Peyton.

Yes,

Said her mommy.

It is her turn now to play with your favorite doll.

I know you promised,

But we need to share,

Sweetie.

As her sister snatched their favorite doll away,

Peyton fell over the dollhouse.

The effect of the dollhouse roof broke off.

Peyton oh,

She was very angry now.

She kicked.

She screamed.

She wanted to smash the world into smithereens.

She roared a red,

Red roar as if she was a dinosaur or a dragon spewing fire and flames everywhere.

And her body got hot.

So hot,

She felt like a volcano ready to explode.

And when Peyton gets angry,

I mean really,

Really angry,

Bam!

She uses her superpowers.

And she runs.

She runs and runs and runs.

She runs so fast and so far that she can't run anymore.

Stops running in a circle.

And then for a little while,

She cries.

And then she stops.

And she steps outside in her backyard so she could be one with nature.

And so she finds a place where she can sit.

She looks at the trees.

She listens to the wind blowing through the leaves.

She hears a bird singing to her.

And she looks at the flowers that grow here and there.

And then her cat,

Who is soft and warm,

Comes over and snuggles in her lap.

It's there.

And she pets her cat.

Gentle,

Soft,

Long strokes.

Feeling the soft fur on her hand.

The wet moisture on the tip of her kitty's nose.

And she listens to the sound of her cat softly purring just to her.

And you know what?

Everything slows down.

She feels the gentle breeze blow through her hair.

She feels the sun as it warms her head,

Face,

And neck.

And she just relaxes here snuggling with her cat.

And it is as if in this very moment the whole wide world comforts her and soothes her aching heart.

She places her cat down on the ground.

And she decides to go back home.

And she steps inside the house,

The house is warm and it smells of yummy fresh baked cookies.

And everyone is happy and smiling inside her home.

Her mom greets her and gives her a big hug and says,

Are you feeling better now?

And Peyton nods her head,

Yes,

She does.

And her little sister comes over and hands her her favorite doll.

And she says,

Thank you.

Thank you for sharing with me.

And Peyton smiles and says,

That's okay.

Next time ask first,

Please.

And then she looks at the dollhouse and daddy fixed it.

The roof is back to normal.

Everything is back together again.

And Peyton isn't angry anymore.

I hope you enjoyed the sleep story about anger.

And so I hope you can lie there now,

Quiet and calm in your bed.

And maybe think of a place where you like to go that makes you feel calm and relaxed.

Maybe it's the beach.

Maybe it's your bed where you're at right now.

Or maybe it's snuggling in someone's arms or having a pet.

But you can begin to dream and imagine that you're there now.

Maybe in your special place or imagining that someone or something is there with you,

Watching over you.

So you sleep so good tonight.

Night night.
