Many of us wait to feel confident before we try something new, especially when anxiety is present. But in my own life, I’ve begun to notice something gentler and more truthful. This talk offers a quiet reflection on fear, anxiety, and self-esteem, and explores how self-esteem can grow not through confidence first, but through the simple act of showing up, just as we are.

I want to talk about trying new and scary things because as someone who's naturally quite anxious,

It's totally counterintuitive to try things that feel beyond my comfort zone.

My whole body reacts,

I feel anxious,

My heart races,

I want to run a million miles from it.

But recently I've been trying many more things that scare me and I've noticed a really interesting pattern start to emerge.

The fear doesn't disappear,

But each time I complete the thing I was frightened of,

I feel a little bit stronger,

A little bit more empowered and my self-esteem goes through the roof.

So there's an equation that I'm starting to develop in my mind,

Which is the greater the fear that you push through,

The greater the growth in your self-esteem.

So just think about that for a little while.
