Perfect for assisting with calm, rest, release, and relaxation, this is a poetic guided meditation on the ocean. It draws inspiration from the largest ocean in the world. The deep sea is called the Moana in 35 languages indigenous to the islands of the Pacific. It gently encourages relaxation, communion with the sea, and release of burdens into the waves. This is one in a series of Mana Moana meditations that explore indigenous concepts, philosophy, and ideas indigenous to the Pacific.

Welcome to a Moana meditation.

Let us remind ourselves that we are of the ocean.

Close your eyes and call on the memory of water.

Some days we've been on dry land for too long.

Our ache for ocean so great,

Our eyes weep waves.

Let our veins become rivers that flow straight out to sea.

Let the water run through your body,

From the top of your head,

Down your shoulders and out through arms.

Let it run all the way through your body and out the tips of your toes.

Feel the water rushing through you,

Washing away the too hard,

The too heavy.

Let it soften you with its gentle waves and graceful trickle.

Feel the rhythmic flow of the ocean in your own body and the graceful fingers of the Taupo.

Today,

In midst of our too hard and too fast,

Let us slow to the senses of the tides and the bluest green of our waters and find our bodies floating.

Let us be held in these open harbored arms of unconditional ocean that can always hold our weight and as tempted as we are to hold ourselves tightly together with tension,

Control and with worry.

Let us let go.

Let us surrender to the water itself and let us feel it beneath us,

Powerful,

Ever-present and holding.

Let us find the faith of the floating as we rest and surrender.

Let us surrender more.

Let your body go,

More relaxed than you were before,

Even more rested and know that you're being held always by something greater than your own buoyancy.

And despite all the hard things that come,

If you can surrender to being uplifted by the body water of the world,

If you can trust,

Then you will feel the grace and rhythm of the water world itself.

So trust and let go and flow in this epic ocean that we are born of,

In the warmest waters.

Relax your body into the feeling of floating.

Limp arms,

Loose limbs.

Feel it soften in the water.

Feel the graceful rhythm beneath you,

Around you.

Feel the flow into your joints,

Fingers,

Wrists.

Let go,

Then let go of the tension even more.

Feel the warmth lapping gently against your body and trust that you do not have to hold yourself up alone.

Let the waves hold you,

Really,

Really sink in to the soft feel of that salt water.

Feel your arms float like anemones,

Your hair float like kelp or seaweed in the water.

Feel the salt water its saline warmth hold you,

Floating in the warm womb of the world's water,

Gently being rocked into being.

Let all the tensions and toxins flow,

Flushed with salt water.

Let everything that needs to leak out of you,

Eek out of you.

We return all that is too much for us to hold into the endless ocean,

Our burdens,

Our hard,

Our heavy,

Our difficult.

We discharge it,

We release it,

We let it go into the water,

Into the waves,

Into the depths that are beyond our understandings.

This is an opportunity to shed,

To let go of things that are weighing us down.

Just think of one thing,

One thing you don't want to carry anymore and let it go into that swirling water.

Let our excess,

Our distress,

Our distrust,

Our stress,

Let it pour from our bodies into the open ocean,

Knowing that it can handle it and more.

Let us feel that water cleansing us at the shore.

Let us feel that water so vast,

So wide,

So expansive.

We are but a drop in an ocean,

A speck in the sea and it is more than able to carry us,

Cleanse us,

Hold us.

Let us float like starfish in sea,

Her beautiful body,

She can hold even our weight.

We know the ocean,

She loves us,

Flat on our backs,

We feel her outstretched palms,

Legs wide open.

We are stars in worship,

We float in and out,

A meditation as old as the tide.

As we feel the tide beneath us,

We breathe in and we breathe out,

We breathe in,

We breathe out,

Five pointed offerings,

Wafers in her mouth,

Fingers tipping,

Spin,

Drift.

Let us trust in that which is greater than us,

As we always have.

Let us return as we need to,

To the power of the ocean.

Let us renew ourselves in these sweet saline waters.

Let us be held in those blue arms and surrender.
