Headaches are common enough and usually benign symptoms in the body. But some of us are more prone to them than others--some of us get them all the time. In addition to any medical support you may need around your headaches, let's take a little time to consider the spiritual meaning of a headache. We'll let the body talk to us and find out if there's a deeper meaning to this aching head that our bodies might be trying to communicate with us spiritually or emotionally.

Welcome to this guided meditation to explore the meaning of the headaches you might have been experiencing lately.

We're going to take a very gentle,

Mindful approach to exploring the spiritual meaning of these headaches.

Please take your time and be very gentle with yourself as you explore these sensations with me.

Take your time to prepare for your meditation.

Feel free to lie down if that's helpful.

Take a moment to acknowledge the land you are on right now and your relationship with this land.

Take a few deep breaths if you like or simply notice what your breath is doing naturally.

We're approaching your headaches while holding the possibility that they might be a signal from your body wanting to tell you something that you might really need to know.

So to the degree that it feels comfortable,

Tune in to your headache.

Simply notice it or remember the last one you had if you're not feeling a headache right at the moment.

And get curious about the sensations.

Where are they exactly?

Is there tightness,

Pulsing,

Not enough space,

Too much space?

Without needing to judge or analyze,

Simply notice the sensations that are available to you right now.

If these sensations could speak,

What would they say?

Do they remind you of anything or anyone?

If you ask the headache what it needs,

What does it respond,

If anything?

Again,

Simply notice.

So what's going on in your head lately?

What have you been thinking about?

Is there something you're trying not to think about?

Do you tend to overthink as a strategy to cope with stress?

Is there something happening right now that thinking isn't helping?

Now bring your attention to the area of your sixth chakra,

Ajna,

Located between your eyebrows and slightly above them,

And then right in the middle of your brain.

This is the energy center related to your intuition,

Your inner knowing.

Not so much your thinking,

But your knowing.

Especially if your headache is around your eyes and forehead,

You may want to consider this place.

Do you feel connected to your intuition right now?

Do you trust your feelings,

Reactions,

Dreams,

Inner knowings?

Do you sometimes notice that your thoughts about the world,

Yourself,

Or people around you can be untrue,

Not quite right?

Your seventh chakra,

Sahasrara,

Is the energy center located just above your head,

Which connects you to spirituality,

To greater reality,

Your sense of spirit,

God,

Goddess,

Whatever you call it.

Pay attention here,

Especially if you feel your headache more around the top of your head,

In your skull.

What is your relationship with your spirituality like right now?

Do you feel connected to spirit,

To meaning,

Something greater,

Maybe even to your community?

Do you feel very alone in the world sometimes?

In some cases,

Headaches are caused by simple self-care issues,

Like not drinking enough water or not enough nourishing food.

Sometimes it's about accumulating neck and shoulder tension,

Drinking too much coffee,

Or holding your body in a way that's hard on the muscles of your neck,

Head,

And shoulders.

So let's consider self-care for a moment.

Is there something that I know that I do that causes me headaches?

Why do I do these things?

Why not stop considering the cost?

Do I believe that I am fundamentally worthy of loving care?

Did I learn at some point in my life that I deserve to be mistreated or neglected?

Is my body an ally worthy of attention and care,

Or is my body just an annoyance that follows my brain around?

Is there something that I'm avoiding feeling or dealing with by making sure on some unconscious level that I'm always in pain?

Is there any benefit to these headaches?

Do they help me to do or not do something?

Sometimes pain in the body is a way of saying no when your voice can't.

Is there something happening here around boundaries saying no?

You may or may not have gained some wisdom and information in this meditation.

Either way is fine.

In many cases,

The system appreciates being listened to.

Attended to,

Even if there's no obvious solution or answer to what's going on.

You may also have noticed that there's something you can do,

Or a perspective shift you can try to work with in your body to help ease your symptoms.

Whatever this experience was like for you,

Thank yourself for being willing to be here with your body,

And thank your body for being here with you.

And I appreciate you listening.

Have a wonderful rest of your day.
