An energising breathwork practice, sometimes called espresso breath, for clearing brain fog and preparing for focused work without reaching for caffeine. Short, rhythmic exhales driven from the belly increase oxygen flow to the brain and gently activate the sympathetic nervous system in a controlled way, like a locomotive building steam. Start with thirty seconds if you are new to this and build from there. If you feel lightheaded, return to normal breathing. Avoid this practice if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, or are in a moment of acute anxiety, where a calming practice will serve you better. Best done on an empty stomach.
