Hi.
I'm really glad you're here.
Sometimes we wake up feeling.
Different.
Not overwhelmed,
Not heartbroken,
Not necessarily anxious,
Just sad.
A quiet kind of sadness that seems to arrive without an invitation.
You might find yourself wondering,
Why do I feel like this?
You look around at your life.
Nothing terrible has happened.
Perhaps you're even surrounded by people you love.
Maybe you're on holiday.
Maybe today was supposed to be a good day.
And yet,
Everything feels just a little muted.
Little heavier.
As though someone has quietly turned down the color in the world.
If that's where you are today.
I want you to know something.
You don't have to explain this feeling to deserve compassion.
You don't have to earn the right to feel what you're feeling.
Sometimes our hearts know something before our minds do.
Sometimes our nervous systems are carrying more than we realize.
Sometimes hormones shift.
Sometimes we're tired.
Sometimes we're grieving something we haven't fully named.
And sometimes we simply don't know.
And perhaps we don't have to know today.
Take a slow breath in.
And let it go.
Again,
A little slower this time.
And notice the surface beneath you.
Notice that even if your emotions feel uncertain,
You're being supported right now.
There is something that has helped me during days like these.
Not because it makes the sadness disappear.
But because it stops me fighting it.
I imagine this feeling as a quiet companion.
Not an enemy.
Not something broken inside me.
Just the part of me that's having a difficult day.
Instead of trying to push it away.
I imagine taking it gently by the hand.
Almost like saying.
You can come with me today.
I don't need you to leave before I continue living.
You can sit beside me while I make breakfast.
You can walk with me outside.
You can watch the sunset with me.
You can even come on holiday with me,
If that's where we are.
Because life doesn't have to stop simply because one part of us feels sad.
Sometimes I'll still do the things I usually enjoy.
I'll go for the walk.
Meet the friend.
Sit in the garden.
Listen to music.
Not because I'm trying to force happiness.
But because these are gentle ways of caring for myself.
Sometimes I notice the sadness softening.
Sometimes I don't.
And both are OK.
Because my job isn't to make the feeling disappear.
My job is simply to stay kind to myself while it's here.
See if you can picture that now.
You in this feeling.
Walking side by side.
No struggle.
No tug of war.
Just enough space for both of you.
Notice how different that feels compared with spending all your energy trying to work out what's wrong.
Take another slow breath.
And remember this.
No feeling stays exactly the same forever.
Even when it feels endless.
Our inner weather is always changing.
Clouds move.
Seasons change.
The tide goes out.
And eventually comes back in.
Your emotions do the same.
You don't have to rush this one away.
You don't have to understand it perfectly.
You don't have to justify it.
You only have to meet yourself with the same kindness you would offer someone you love.
Before we finish,
I'd like to leave you with one gentle thought.
Perhaps today isn't a day for solving.
Perhaps it's simply a day for accompanying yourself.
For letting yourself be exactly as you are.
While trusting that this feeling too belongs to a much bigger story.
Take one final slow breath in.
And slowly let it go.
Thank you for allowing me to spend these few quiet moments with you today.
Take good care of yourself.
One step at a time.
This meditation is part of my emotional first aid series.
