Number 13 of 15 to 20-minute 'Staying At Home' relaxation recordings that include a body scan and a song - sometimes my own, sometimes other people's. In these times of unrest, I wanted to offer something that might be helpful and useful, whether you're at home or helping in the community; a key worker or a politically active individual, or maybe a few of these combined.

Hi there,

It's Tuesday.

It's the 7th of April.

I wonder how you're doing today.

I wonder how your day was,

How your feelings were,

How things have been today.

Today's relaxation comes with an own song called Hubenal.

My cartoon today is my little character for the relaxation.

He's Boris Johnson.

And he's like many,

He's gone into hospital.

And the song is about our shared humanity.

Any views I have you can find on my Facebook page,

But we'll keep those out of this recording.

So,

Finding a quiet place.

Wherever we are,

Wherever we are today,

How does it feel just to be with our body and our feelings in this moment?

So just allowing you to find your position,

And when you get into that position,

Whether you're lying or you're sitting,

What's it like just to be quite still just for a second?

And feel that we're sharing our beating heart and our breathing lungs with the other billions of people on the planet.

And also the countless animals who also have beating hearts and breathing lungs.

Yeah,

So a song about interconnection.

Okay,

So we are gonna take our breaths in and out together.

So three breaths,

So one in,

Holding the belly and breathing out.

And breathing in,

And breathing out.

And breathing in,

And breathing out.

Okay then,

Resting feet.

How are you both today?

Souls of the feet.

Can you imagine the lines on the bottom of your foot that come with aging?

Maybe we'll tell a story about where we've been in our lives in some ways.

Toes,

Toenails,

Space in between the toes.

And the shape of the top of the foot.

And ankle and heel.

Bones,

23 in each one.

33 muscles and those hundreds of tendons connecting.

So resting,

Contact with the ground,

Then move up into the legs.

And we spoke yesterday about the calf muscle called in medical terms,

The gastrocnemius or calf muscle.

Remember that that's one of the largest muscles of the leg and it connects the heel.

And it flexes and it extends the foot,

And the ankle and the knee.

And today I introduce you to the soleus muscle.

So this muscle extends from the back of the knee to the heel at the back.

And this one we can thank for walking and standing.

So muscle and bone.

And the skin around the legs.

Back of the knees and the top of the knees above the kneecap.

Then we move up into the thighs.

The femur bone.

And more muscles which we'll name another time.

Just know that they're there working in pairs attached to the bone.

And in these moments resting.

The wonder of legs and feet.

And then moving up into the hips.

Breath at the waist,

At the belly.

Coming in and out,

Bringing the oxygen into the system.

Something I'd like to talk about another time as well,

The breath.

For now just knowing that that's coming in and out.

Natural rhythm.

The intestines,

The stomach,

Large and small.

Side of the body.

So it's the rib cage.

Up into the chest,

And where the spine,

Lungs.

Heart.

And then we've got the collarbone.

Gonna go over the,

Let's go with the right arm to start today.

Off the arms we go over the shoulder,

Sensing the shoulder blade at the back.

Recognizing any tension that's there in the shoulders.

An easy place,

I know myself,

To store tension sometimes.

Down over the top of the arm,

The muscle there,

The elbow.

Into the forearm.

Shape,

Weight,

Skin,

Bone.

Resting muscles.

And into the wrist.

You feel where the fingers and the thumbs start.

Up the fingers,

Fingertips.

Over to the tips of the left hand.

Moving down through the fingertips,

Over the knuckles.

Feeling the aliveness and the rest in your hand.

Wrist.

Forearm.

Moving up to the elbow.

And then into the muscle there.

Beyond the part up to the shoulder.

Feeling the back.

And the back of the neck and the back of the head,

Whether that's in contact with the ground or whether it's just in the air.

Chin,

Teeth,

Tongue.

Nose,

Breath coming in and out.

Eyes.

Forehead on the top of the head.

So feeling your body just in this moment.

Feeling that rest,

That calm.

Allowing the brain also to rest thoughts,

Feelings,

Opinions.

At least until the end of the relaxation can we just rest and come back to all our things that we do and think about after the relaxation.

With a renewed sense of calm.

Okay,

We're singing this song so.

.

.

Breathing.

And.

.

.

Let's speak to the other side of the song.

Let's sing it.

When you stand hand in hand and you be calm.

Oh where there was you and I we become.

Where there was two we become one.

Can you feel it?

Face to face and you're listening.

You see those eyes?

They're a sparkle and a glistening and it feels like there's nothing that you're missing.

No,

It's like you have it all.

I know it's there in the feeling.

It's there in the giving and it's there in the receiving.

When hearts are here and hearts live is healing to be a part of because.

All our blood is red.

When all our sweat is so.

And after all when it comes to it.

We are human all.

Close your eyes there's a river.

Flowing wide and if you give a time and the space it grows bigger.

And it's flowing.

It comes into you from the mountain.

Comes there from the clear crystal fountain.

We're all part of her.

Because all our blood is red.

All our sweat is so.

And after all it comes to it.

We are human all.

Our blood is red.

And all our sweat is so.

And after all when it comes to it.

We are human all.

So when you stand hand in hand and you be calm.

Oh where there was you and I.

We become where there was two.

We become one.

Can you feel it?

So,

A fuller version,

A longer version of the song.

On an album I released earlier this year.

Called More the Love That's Given.

To keep the relaxation is at a similar time to the others.

I'll give you a smaller version of the song there today.

And best wishes for the rest of your day or evening.

And afternoon.

Yeah,

Sending my best wishes and love to you wherever you are today.

Take care.
