A very simple and to the point explanation of what mindfulness is. It highlights that we all have the ability to be more mindful and that everyone is distracted, yet we can all come back to the present moment if we want to. Use this to help with learning to take a relaxed approach to mindfulness.

Mindfulness is something we all have.

We were born with it and we can access it at any time.

The modern world is helping us to become disconnected from ourselves and the people around us.

We filter and distort reality and we believe it is real.

This disconnection from who we are and what is happening plays havoc with our thoughts,

Emotions and feelings,

Causing unhelpful reactions as we take everything personally.

It's not our fault.

It's just how we've been conditioned over time.

We can under or overreact when we really need to just respond in an open,

Curious and calm way.

At first,

Mindfulness is best learnt with a mindfulness teacher,

Learning and cultivating the skills before going solo.

Skills which involve regular practices of sitting,

Walking or lying and just noticing.

And then we can reinforce informally during the day,

Paying attention to the littlest things like a bird singing or making a hot drink.

As our practice progresses,

Negative reactions are reduced and positive actions are enhanced.

We slowly become connected once again with what's really going on around us and inside of us.

We connect with ourselves and others,

Developing a sense of ease,

Which is the result of positive hormones produced by a regular practice.

We improve the relationship between the heart and mind,

Body and brain.

And we will still experience pain,

But our suffering will reduce.

We will still experience pleasure,

But our egos will be kinder.

Mindfulness is not a quick fix.

Mindfulness is a skill to be nurtured.

Thank you.
