This is a one-point exercise,
An acute technique to take you out of your head,
Bring you in your body.
Take a slow breath in,
Let it out,
And release any tension in the body or the mind.
Stand comfortably with your feet shoulder-width apart,
And for the next few moments allow yourself to become more aware of a place inside you that has always been there,
Even if you haven't noticed it consciously before.
Bring your attention now to your one point,
About an inch below your navel and halfway back toward your spine.
You can place your hand there gently if you like,
Feel its warmth,
The breathing beneath it.
And as your attention settles there,
You may begin to notice something interesting,
Because every great structure has a center.
A tree has roots,
A mountain has its base,
A hurricane has its calm eye,
And a person has a center too.
Your one point can become like the deep roots of an ancient oak tree,
Steady no matter how strong the winds are.
So as you breathe,
Imagine roots extending downward from that one point,
Deep into the earth,
Grounding you,
Stabilizing you,
Supporting you.
And with every breath,
It's as though your mind can stop spinning on the surface,
And begin to settle,
Like snowflakes drifting gently to the bottom of a still glass globe.
Calm,
Quiet,
Centered.
And you may notice that when your attention stays trapped in the head,
Thoughts can move like leaves in the wind,
But when awareness drops into the body,
Into your center,
Everything begins to move differently,
Like the difference between a wave at the surface of the ocean and the stillness deep beneath it.
The surface may rise and fall,
Yet the depths remain calm,
Stable,
Powerful.
Now think of a situation where you'd normally feel tension,
Uncertainty,
Or pressure,
And instead of reacting automatically,
Allow yourself to imagine responding from this deeper place,
From your center,
From your roots,
From the calm eye of the storm,
And notice what changes.
Maybe your breath slows naturally.
Maybe your shoulders soften.
Maybe your voice becomes steadier.
Now imagine this one point becoming like an internal compass.
No matter what happens around you,
This one point helps you return to yourself,
Balanced,
Clear,
Present,
And every time you place your awareness there,
Your nervous system can begin to remember this feeling faster and faster,
And in the future,
Whenever life becomes noisy or chaotic,
You can simply breathe.
Place your attention here and reconnect with the calm,
The strength that has always been inside you,
Your center,
Your balance.
