This short reading asks us to consider the beauty of simply being a witness. As we age, we may feels the need to turn away from doing and spend more time simply being, observing, witnessing, recognizing the inherent value we added to our lives, and the lives of others when we allow love and compassion to enter the world through our witnessing. Is it enough to simply be a witness?

To allow the world to pass before us and simply accept all without striving,

And in that acceptance to extend its beauty?

Is it enough to be here now,

Seeing the world's great spinning,

And to not step into the dance?

Is it enough,

Finally,

To say enough?

To let the love of the earth within us sigh us into a softer existence,

An acceptance of all manifest things?

Is it enough simply to be a witness,

After all we have learned,

All we have strived for,

All we've accomplished and failed at?

Is it enough to allow all that to pass by,

And to finally be but a witness,

With care,

Love,

And compassion?

I think it IS enough. As you age you do slow down. You can't do some of the things you once did without a thought. If you've had dreams you may have accomplished many. Things that were once a thing you wanted to do you may not wish to anymore. I think you find joy in seeing others do new things, seeing nature unfold. Thanks for posting.

Thank you Jeffrey. The role of witness is so important for me. I've never thought of it in relation to ageing gracefully.
