The 5-7-8 breath.

Breathe in as you count from 1 to 5.

Hold your breath as you count from 1 to 7.

Breathe out as you count from 1 to 8.

This is one of the most potent rescue remedies for helping the mind return to its natural,

Clear,

Calm state.

It is based upon pranayama yoga breathing,

Which activates the parasympathetic nervous system,

Relaxing the body and calming the mind.

And it can help you begin to breathe more deeply in your daily life.

You can count at your own rate.

Do this for 2 1-2 or 3 minutes,

Then resume normal,

Unregulated breathing.

Notice any effects on body,

Heart or mind.

I'll demonstrate.

Breathing in as you count from 1 to 5.

Holding as you count to 7.

Breathing out as you count to 8.

Again.

In.

Hold.

Out.

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8.

Now you pick it up and do it silently.
