Gratitude Practice In the midst of a charged and chaotic workplace,
When you notice that you are feeling frazzled,
Pause briefly and open your mind's awareness,
Searching for at least five things you are grateful for.
You might find more than five.
Notice any effects of this simple practice on your body,
Heart,
Or mind.
Note,
You can do this so no one notices,
For example,
While taking a few extra minutes as you look at the electronic medical record,
While washing your hands,
In a short pause before eating,
Or even in the bathroom,
Which might be the only place all day that you have a few free minutes.
I'll give you an example.
I'm closing my eyes,
Noticing my breathing,
Oh,
I'm grateful for my healthy lungs,
I notice my heart beating,
Faithfully beats all day and night since before I was born,
I'm grateful for my heart.
Now I notice the sensations of my clothing moving gently on my body as I breathe,
I'm grateful to my clothing for keeping me warm and covered.
Now I notice the sounds of vacuuming,
I'm grateful for the people who keep the place I live and work clean.
Now I notice that I'm more relaxed,
I'm grateful for this meditation that helps me focus on the positive.
I'm grateful for this meditation that helps me focus on the positive.
