Hi everyone,
This meditation is in continuation of our Find Your Everlasting Happiness series.
We analyzed last time that mind is the ultimate source of our happiness and suffering.
Everything comes from the outside world.
You have seen that already.
Work,
Relationships,
Chocolates,
Everything is transient in nature.
In this meditation,
We will take a step forward from that and we will try to understand the actual state of our mind or our consciousness.
So take a comfortable meditation posture.
Let your feet be grounded,
Your back is straight and eyes are gently closed.
Take three deep breaths and settle down your body.
Do a quick scan of your body starting from the top.
Open your head and see how your hair feels like.
See if there is any tension on your forehead.
Release all your tension from there.
With every exhale of breath,
Release all the tension from your body.
See how your face is.
Is there any tension around your cheeks or lips or your eyes?
Release it.
Calm down to your shoulders and neck and observe how they feel.
Do you feel the urge to move them?
Don't do.
Just relax.
With every exhale,
Release your tension and let your body do its own course.
Go down and feel your back.
Release any tension which is there.
Don't rush through this process.
It surely helps you to make your body calm and ready for the meditation ahead.
You feel the sensations when your hips touches the cushion or the floor.
Just feel it.
Feel your arms now starting from your upper arm,
Your elbow and go down till your fingers.
How you feel it?
Do you feel any sensation or any calmness?
Let go of everything that you are feeling and let the body adjust.
Feel your legs now,
Your thighs,
Knees and your feet.
Take a deep breath if you need and let go of all your tensions.
So what is mind or consciousness?
Let's find out.
Think about yourself as of now.
Who are you and describe yourself in one sentence.
So describe yourself in one sentence but go back five years from now.
Who were you?
What were you like?
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Who were you at the time when you had your first child?
How would you describe yourself then?
Think about a time,
About your marriage or your first relationship.
How different were you?
Describe yourself in a simple one sentence.
Now go back to the days when you got your first job and again repeat the same exercise and describe yourself in a simple sentence about the days when you got your first job.
Now try to remember your first college and describe yourself as clearly as you can.
And lastly can you describe yourself when you were a kid or probably your school days.
What did you notice?
Are you the same now the way you were in your college or when you got your first job?
Is your mind same the way it was when you were in your school?
Absolutely not.
The first fundamental of mind or consciousness is that it is a continuous stream of individual moments.
Each moment comes from the previous moment of mind.
These are individual moments and they need not be similar to each other.
Mind itself is non-physical and it is just made up of a continuous stream of individual and discrete moments.
So how does it help us?
This gives you an immense power to understand that we have the ability to change how we are thinking and feeling now.
Because our mind cannot be stuck in one state or one moment.
Because our mind is continuous,
A continuous stream of moments and hence it cannot be stuck in one state or in one moment.
And you have the ability to choose the next moment of your mind.
Whenever you are caught up in a negative or helpless situation,
Remember that my mind is just stuck in one negative state as of now.
But it is just one moment.
I have the capacity to change the next moment of my mind and I choose to make it positive.
Repeat it with me.
I have the capacity to change the next moment of my mind and I will make it positive.
My happiness comes from my mind and I have the capacity to change the next moment of my mind and I will make it positive.
Let this feeling sink in and feel the empowerment that you have,
The ability and the capacity to change the next moment of your mind.
Open your eyes whenever you are comfortable.
I am Shakun Maheshwari and I thank you for practicing with me tonight and I hope you make each and every moment the next moment of your mind,
Positive and happy.
God Bless!
