Welcome to the Who Am I?

Meditation and spiritual inquiry.

It's helpful to have listened to my other track,

Recognising Awareness before using this one.

Yet it can work without that,

Such is the nature of awareness.

The tracks on here all emerge from the silence awareness within.

And that is naturally encoded within the recording.

That same silence awareness is within you.

And as you listen,

Simply be open to that,

And a natural resonance and entrainment will effortlessly arise.

Who am I?

Is the fundamental spiritual inquiry.

In its essence it could be traced back to the first yogi,

Adiyogi,

15,

Its simplicity and power can be life transforming when truly understood.

Let's begin by offering you this important insight.

Who am I?

The question dissolves the questioner and the self is realised.

What does this mean?

It points directly to spiritual self-realisation in this way.

Imagine a wave in a vast,

Indeed infinite ocean.

The wave is not separate from the ocean,

Simply an appearance within it.

It will inevitably return to the ocean since it was never separate from it.

It will realise it is in fact the ocean itself.

The ocean chose to express itself as a wave and in this process came to know itself in its own experience.

Thus is the process of life and self-realisation.

The wave,

Our human identity,

By virtue of its intrinsic unity with the universe,

Eventually seeks to know its ultimate truth.

A calling arises from within.

The question,

Who am I?

Emerges.

At first,

Because we are so used to the human identity,

The answers may come.

This body-mind,

Its roles,

Its relationships,

Its profession,

Its family,

Nationality and more.

On closer inspection and through the power of infinite awareness or silence meditation,

That is our essence,

We begin to open to deeper and deeper realisations about life and whom we really are.

Meditation begins as a practice and culminates in spiritual self-realisation.

The wave realising it is the ocean and always has been.

The identification with,

Belief in and attachment to the All I Am is this body-mind is extremely limiting.

It is what I call the case of mistaken identity.

It is eventually seen that this beautiful gift of the body-mind experience is something that we have,

Like we may have a car,

Yet it is not that which we truly are.

The ocean has created many waves and all return to the ocean.

The process of self-realisation is thus one of gradually dissolving the case of mistaken identity until the ocean is recognised,

Realised.

Back to our insight.

Who am I?

The question dissolves the questioner and the self is realised.

It is the mistaken identity that has the question.

The ocean knows it is the ocean.

The identity dissolves just as the wave fades into the ocean.

It is also akin to a sliver of ice in this ocean.

It gradually dissolves and becomes one with the ocean and realises this.

When we believe that all we are is the identity,

It is like creating an iceberg or a huge wave and we suffer from the belief in separation from that which we truly are.

Through awareness-based meditation and the essence of spiritual enquiry,

Who am I?

The game changes.

We open from within to the deepest realisation of life.

It is so beautiful and ultimately so simple,

Since that which we are seeking turns out to be that which we already are.

The ocean.

Life itself.

Eternal life.

Infinite awareness.

Infinite silence.

Once again,

Who am I?

The question dissolves the questioner and the self is realised.

With these important awarenesses,

We can employ this meditative question in our daily practice.

It can even become,

With practice,

Something we can incorporate as we go about our daily lives.

So how do we go about this?

Firstly,

Some fundamental insights.

The essence of meditation is awareness.

It can also be referred to as infinite silence.

No thing.

Source and more.

Awareness,

Or infinite silence,

Is that which we are,

And that which is realised,

And it is always here.

The track Recognising Awareness explores this further.

Yet we can employ a very simple meditative process to open ourselves to this awareness.

Once you are familiar with it,

It can be used anytime,

Anyplace,

Anywhere.

If you haven't already done so,

Just gently close your eyes now.

Simply,

Silently,

Accept fully whatever is here now,

Without any judgement.

Breath,

Feelings,

Thoughts,

Sensations,

Emotions,

Whatever is here,

Just accept that fact,

Fully.

Observe it all with a neutral interest,

Just like you are watching a movie,

From the inside.

Simply,

Silently,

Watching,

Observing,

Witnessing,

That's all.

As you continue to witness,

Simply and gently now,

Inside,

Let this question arise.

Who am I?

Who am?

Pause and witness.

Just witness.

Just rest with this.

If anything comes,

Wonderful,

Just let that be.

No need to analyse.

Just witness.

If nothing emerges,

Also wonderful.

Just witness and be with the space.

All is ultimately well.

Who am I?

Now continuing with your eyes closed,

I'll share insight.

On first use of this meditation,

People might get answers that relate to identity,

As we explored earlier.

Name,

Relationships,

Job,

Nationality or similar.

This is ok.

Nothing wrong or right.

Just notice those things.

Sometimes an opening might occur,

And a deeper response emerges,

A pointing to awareness.

Whichever it is for you right now,

Simply notice what is here,

Without any judgement.

Now,

Let's go a little further,

And with your eyes still closed,

And accepting whatever is here,

Let this new question emerge,

Inside.

Who am I?

Without memory.

Who am I?

Without memory.

Wait,

Watch,

Observe,

Witness.

Who am I?

Without memory.

If something comes,

Wonderful.

If not,

Also wonderful.

Just be with the space.

It's perfectly ok.

You can stay with your eyes closed,

And listen to this insight.

The second question is another way,

Or invitation,

To move beyond mind identification,

And hence the reference to without memory.

This way can take us beyond mind,

And people will start to gradually get deeper awarenesses arising.

Love,

Silence,

Stillness,

Awareness,

Presence,

Essence,

Emptiness,

Others.

It may take a bit of practice,

But it's worth staying the course,

Since this very simple approach is actually infinitely powerful.

And that goes directly to why mystics for millennia have employed this enquiry in many different ways.

What emerged for you?

Whatever it was,

It's ok.

Even if nothing at all.

This is a journey,

Not a race.

It may take some time,

Yet it is ultimately simple.

You can use this practice many times a day,

When you have a few moments to spare.

It can help to bring you back to awareness at any point when you have noticed yourself slipping.

You can integrate it into your daily meditations,

Either before,

During,

Or after.

Go with what works.

In a moment the singing bowl will sound,

And after that I'll share some final guidance.

Just remaining simply,

Silently,

Aware,

Resting,

Aware of your body,

The chair you are sat on,

Or whatever you may be lay on,

Aware of the room,

The space.

When the moment is right for you,

Just gently open your eyes in the knowing that this awareness is ever present,

And you are it.

Repetition is key in self-realisation.

Just consider how many years we have spent being conditioned into believing a limited version of ourselves.

Give yourself a break,

Go easy,

And trust the power of awareness,

Or infinite silence.

It will transform your life from within,

And you will see and realise you are it.

For a deeper exploration of all this,

Use freely available playlists,

A self-realisation programme,

Infinite silence meditations 1-7,

And a playlist for dissolving emotions,

Blocks,

Belief and trauma.

Be still and know you are infinite awareness,

Or silence,

Always.

Namaste and many blessings.
