Welcome to today's practice.
Today's meditation is about being afraid of your own thoughts.
Sometimes when you first learn about the power of your thinking it can make you afraid of every negative thought you have.
You can become unsure of how to change your thinking or whether you'll ever be able to change it enough to change what's not working in your life.
So let me open with a The real problem isn't hanging on to those negative or destructive or self-sabotaging thoughts.
Because when you hang on to negative thoughts they become negative roads.
And when you go down a negative road you start imagining one thing after another after another like a chain reaction of unwanted thinking.
So no wonder you end up surrounded by things you don't want.
It's like starting with your compass just one degree off.
You don't notice it at first but soon you're wandering farther off from your intended course and further away from where you want to be.
Worse you may end up completely lost.
So in this meditation we're going to pause and redirect our thinking so that we can be in charge of our thoughts and not the other way around.
You have the ability to change your thoughts so today we're going to use our conscious awareness to purposely focus on what we want to think about and not what we don't.
So let's begin.
I invite you to settle into a comfortable position whatever that looks like for you.
You can be seated,
Reclined.
Do what feels most comfortable so you can allow yourself to relax.
Relax your shoulders,
Your neck.
Try to release any tension you're feeling in your shoulders,
Your chest,
Your neck or your back.
And close your eyes or allow your gaze to soften.
Let go of whatever's come before this moment and anything that's coming after as you gently ease into being here and now.
I'd like you to imagine you're in your favorite place and if you don't have a favorite place try to imagine somewhere where you can feel at home,
At ease,
Free.
Imagine you're sitting in a comfortable chair and there's a bright light radiating outward from where your heart is.
It shines through your arms and legs and up through the crown of your head.
This glowing light shines outward in all directions around you,
Filling the space around you with a beautiful light and you can feel a gentle warmth from its glow.
You smile softly knowing all is well and you're uplifted by the feeling that there's this wellspring of good flowing to you and through you.
Except a thought arrives.
It's a negative thought that's pulling at you.
It's trying to break up the light and drag you back into darkness.
Your intellect wants to engage because along with the thought comes solid reasoning and a pile of evidence.
It's tempting.
It'd be easier to just give in to this old line of thinking but you know where it leads.
That thought and others like it get you to the same place you keep getting to.
Nothing changes unless you change.
It's time to do something different.
This moment is the moment of opportunity.
This time you decide to choose different.
Instead of going down your negative thought road,
You bring your mind back to your favorite place.
You intentionally make your way back to the place where you know all is well and there's a beautiful light that shines through you and around you.
And from this place you sit and wait in the light for new thoughts.
What's one word to describe this place or how you feel or what this place could represent to you?
Pick a word and think of how you feel in your favorite place.
Your word can be like an anchor for you.
It might be something like peace or serenity or joy.
Whenever you feel a negative thought pulling at you,
Wanting to take you down a negative road,
Go back to your word and the feeling of being in that beautiful place.
And if you can,
Take a moment to visualize your state of mind,
Your state of being when you're there.
Whenever you start going down a negative road,
If you can redirect your thinking and interrupt that default thought pattern,
Your life will start to reflect back to you that change.
Now I invite you to repeat a few affirmations with me either silently or aloud.
Number two,
I choose my own thoughts.
Number three,
I choose new,
I choose different,
I choose me.
Number four,
I can let go of old thought patterns.
And five,
I'm the one who chooses what I think.
So as we come to the end of this meditation,
I invite you to sit with the feelings of peace,
Joy,
Serenity.
Thank you so much for being here and until next time,
Trust in your practice and in your own inner guidance and allow the universe to work its magic.
