This is a practice of softening,
Without needing to explain,
Without needing to speak.
Just breath,
Just presence.
And so,
Starting by finding a position that feels restful.
You can be sitting or lying down,
But once you're there,
Letting your body begin to settle.
Letting your hands relax,
Letting your eyes soften or gently close,
And taking a slow breath in through your nose,
And a long exhale through your mouth,
And as you do,
Letting your breath drop you in,
Letting it loosen the grip,
And continuing in this way,
Breath by breath,
No need to push,
No need to force,
No need to fix,
Just letting the breath carry you somewhere quieter,
Somewhere where you don't have to be anyone,
Where you don't have to be anyone except someone who breathes.
And now starting to notice the space between the breaths,
The quiet that lives underneath it all,
Noticing the stillness in your limbs,
The pause at the end of each exhale,
The way your body already knows how to soften,
Letting the next few minutes be your retreat into that softness,
And with each out breath,
Letting a little more tension melt,
Letting the back of the body sink a little deeper,
Letting it release a little more,
Letting the jaw unclench,
Letting your abdomen soften,
Your face relax,
Letting your whole system rest,
And if thoughts come,
Letting them pass like clouds in the sky,
Simply returning to the silence beneath them again and again,
Softening a little more with each exhale,
Noticing any areas that feel tense or tight,
Inviting them through the breath to soften even just a little more,
Surrendering into that support,
A few more breaths like this,
Each one a little deeper than the one before,
Each one a little quieter,
Each one letting go a little more,
Letting the breath speak what words cannot,
And then gently letting that practice go,
Returning to your normal breath,
Staying in the silence if it still feels good,
Or gently beginning to move again,
Wiggling your fingers and your toes,
Gently opening your eyes,
Or maintaining a sense of that softness even as you do.
