So before I got started,

I just wanted to give you all a proper welcome and let you know that I look forward to engaging with you more on social media this year.

All right,

So lean in and enjoy the episode.

Welcome to the segment I like to call Topics and Tools.

In this space,

I'm going to dive deeper on today's topic,

And I am always going to leave you with a tool to use in your real life.

These tools are for self-development,

And they only work if you work them.

Self-help starts with a decision.

Choose yourself,

Friend.

So the topic this week is permission to pivot,

And the word permission means consent,

Or in my mind,

I think about it meaning to allow or to give authorization,

And to pivot means to change.

I visualize it as a smooth turn and something that is like skrr,

Not too rough,

But it's a nice little pivot like on the heel.

And permission to pivot is at the core something that you have to give to yourself.

As adults,

I don't think we think about giving ourselves permission often enough,

Or we may not reflect on who it is or what it is that is the underlying reason of why we make certain decisions.

But for so many of us,

We have something in our minds,

We make a decision,

We commit to something,

And then we don't get out soon enough,

Or we don't want to hurt other people's feelings,

So we don't change.

And a lot of times we stay in situations,

Or jobs,

Or relationships,

Or friendships way past their expiration date,

Because we don't know how,

Or we haven't practiced giving ourselves permission.

So for me,

This comes back to giving myself permission to show up in a way that's not perfect.

Giving myself permission to learn something as I do it.

Giving myself permission to take 10 months off of this project and start it again.

You know,

Those are things that nobody else could have talked me up to doing.

It comes down to my own personal self-talk.

So,

The tool for this week,

Or the tool for this topic,

Is to check your self-talk.

Check in with how you speak to yourself.

Check in with that voice and that conversation that's going in your mind,

Usually 24-7.

And just see what it sounds like.

See what kind of things that self-talk is saying to you about what you have permission to do,

What you have to keep doing,

Who you have to please,

Who are you waiting on to tell you it's okay to do what it is that you know in your gut.

So,

In my opinion,

And I'm sure in expert opinion,

Having a healthy self-talk is really at the core of self-development and self-help.

So,

The tool is to learn about Google and find out what self-talk is if you have never heard of it.

Or,

Check yourself and check your self-talk if you are familiar with it and really level up on what it is to give yourself permission to do it differently.

It's a beautiful time to pivot.

It's a new calendar year.

It's not a new season,

So you may not feel like doing too many things.

You know,

Listen to your body.

But,

The tool is to tap into how you speak to yourself.

Even if you don't make any changes right now,

But you just become more aware of that voice and that conversation that's going on in your mind,

That is the first step to a better and a healthier you.

Permission to pivot.

So,

Friends,

After almost a year of not recording,

I am returning to this podcast humbly and giving myself permission to pivot and do it differently.

This is something that has been on my mind for years and something I've thought about and talked about and wrote about and dreamt about.

I meditated about it and I've just done all the things that you could imagine except acting.

And it wasn't until recently that I realized how much of a perfectionist that I am and how much I really did not want to fail.

But I haven't been satisfied.

And for all the reasons that I had to not record or to be too busy or to not have a quiet space,

A lot of it really just comes down to just doing it.

Just getting out of your own way and getting the thing done,

Not worrying about it being perfect,

Not making it like the other podcast that you love,

Not having 100,

000 listeners in the beginning,

But really dedicating yourself to something you love and being consistent and having those two things are really the most important.

It's really funny how I can show up in my relationships and I can show up with other people and tell them so easily,

Don't worry about being perfect.

All you have to do is be present.

But when it comes to myself,

I can be really hard on myself.

So this is me getting out of my own way,

Being authentic with y'all and really sharing this space with my listeners and with other people who are on a journey of self-awareness and self-development.

And at the end of the day,

At the beginning of the day,

Rather,

It's all about self-love.

So this year,

2022,

I am doing some things differently.

And first off,

What I did different was I'm not trying to do it all by myself.

I started off when I thought about revamping the podcast by getting some help and I got a business coach that was free and that business coach led me to another sister who gave me a complimentary service.

And both of these people just poured into me in such a way that I realized I'm really the only thing holding me back.

So Lady Business gave me a 90 day plan and she is an amazing business coach from Greensboro,

North Carolina who supports people who are just like me,

Just stuck and not really sure how to move forward,

Not really sure what's the next thing to do or how to market yourself.

But she gave me some practical tools.

So that was my first thing was not thinking that I had to do it all by myself and asking for help.

Check.

So I'm using her advice and I decided to change the show from being a weekly show,

Which was very stressful,

To a biweekly show.

So this year in 2022,

Y'all can tap in with me every other Tuesday.

No,

Every other Thursday,

Correction,

I'll be here dropping a new episode every other Thursday.

I've also decided to do seasons and to just make this space more manageable for myself.

And I realized the more organized,

The better.

You got to learn yourself and just know what's best for you.

So those are the two ways that I'm gonna pivot.

And lastly,

I added some segments.

So last year,

I was really just winging it and getting on with inspiration and just trying to be moved before I talked about anything.

And that did not work for me.

It led to a lot of stress.

And then I beat myself up when I didn't feel like I showed up the way that I wanted to.

So this year,

I have some segments that are really true to what I do and to my training and just how I've lived my life.

So the segments are gonna be topics and tools.

So each week,

There'll be a topic,

Of course,

But I'm gonna leave you with a tool to help you in your real life.

And each week,

I'm gonna have a conscious challenge.

So as a coach,

As a mentor,

As a motivational speaker,

Consciousness has been something that is near and dear to my heart and something that I really focus on in many areas of my life.

So I felt like challenging you,

The listener,

Is a way that is fun for me.

I really like things to be fun.

And it's a way to help you,

No matter when you listen to this,

Just really take away something to level up on yourself with until we meet again.

So I'm giving myself permission to do it differently,

To start over,

And to not be perfect.

And I hope no matter what resolution or goal or intention you set this year,

You just allow space for yourself to change your mind,

Allow space for the goal to not look exactly like you thought it would,

And give yourself permission to pivot.

So I'm back.

I'm excited.

And I look forward to sharing more with you not next Thursday,

But Thursday after next.

All right.

Be well and see you later.

A conscious challenge is about personal awareness and authentic accountability.

The only person you should ever compete against is yourself.

Challenge yourself to be better than you were yesterday.

And when you're ready,

Share your story with us using hashtag conscious challenge.

As your virtual coach,

I challenge you to give yourself permission to do something that maybe you're afraid of,

To do something that you've never done,

To do something that is going to make you feel good just because life is really all about living.

And it doesn't have to be anything huge.

But if you have something that you know you want to share with the world,

Or if you're doing something that you've known for a long time,

That your heart and your spirit is telling you to get away from or not to do,

Give yourself permission to change.

Give yourself permission to pivot.

And I'm giving you permission not to have to explain why to anyone.

Because you wanted to.

That's the only reason.

Because you thought about it.

Because you checked yourself talk.

I pray that you pray on it.

But at the end of the day,

Thinking about it and talking about it is not the same as acting on it and doing it.

So your challenge is to do it.

Do something that you want to do,

Do something that's going to make you smile just because you want to change your mind.

You have permission to change your mind.

You have permission to do that thing you want it to do,

Even though it looks weird and nobody's ever done it that way.

Okay?

You have permission to be yourself.

And until you're ready,

If you were ever ready,

You don't have to explain that to anyone.

So let's start this new year off 2020 looking in the mirror and giving ourselves permission to be our best,

Bold,

Boldest,

Brightest selves and not having to apologize or explain that to anyone.

Amen?

All right.

So I hope you enjoyed this episode.

I had a really fun time putting it together and I look forward to many,

Many,

Many more Thursdays.

Be well.

Until next time,

The love is real.

Thank you for listening and remember honesty is key.

So be true to yourself because you can't buy peace of mind.

And if you are ever unhappy,

Always make your own time.
