Prepare a piece of floss.
Relax your shoulders,
Relax your jaw.
Place one hand on your belly and take a gentle breath in through your nose so that you can feel your belly expanding.
Breathe out slowly and fully through your nose to feel your belly fall.
Continue this belly breathing steadily as you wrap your floss around your fingers and ease it in between two teeth.
As you work your way around your mouth gently and carefully flossing the base of every tooth,
Let these words speak directly to your gums.
Gums,
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that sometimes I've been careless about your needs.
I'm sorry that I haven't always kept you clean.
I'm sorry that I've ignored you when you needed attention.
I'm sorry that other people have sometimes treated you roughly.
I'm sorry gums.
Gums,
I love you.
I love your resilience.
I love the strong foundation you provide for my teeth.
I love your sensual feelings.
I love the way you embody my connection to the earth.
I love the way you continue to change and grow and heal.
I love you gums.
Gums,
I forgive you.
I forgive you for showing signs of ageing.
I forgive you for being vulnerable and needing care.
I forgive you for feeling uncomfortable.
I forgive you gums.
And I forgive myself.
I forgive myself for being careless with you.
I forgive myself for ignoring you.
I forgive myself for feeling powerless to help you heal.
I forgive myself.
Gums,
Thank you.
Thank you for holding my teeth and covering my jawbones.
Thank you for letting me know when I needed to take better care of my body.
Thank you for surviving as well as you have.
Thank you for responding to my self-care and self-healing.
Thank you for my smile.
Thank you gums.
When you have finished flossing your whole mouth,
Look at your mouth in the mirror and smile.
