Welcome to Hive Mindfulness Meditations for Curious Kids.
Hello little octopus.
You have had a long night exploring the ocean.
Day is coming and so it is time for you to head home and get ready to sleep.
Swim home little octopus.
Swim home.
You drift gently homeward by filling the siphon in the middle of your body with water.
There you go.
Fill it all up.
Now gently shoot the water out.
Propelling yourself through the ocean.
Now fill your siphon all up.
Suck that water in and slowly let it all out.
Keep filling your siphon right up and then emptying it gently.
As you drift home,
Take some time to enjoy the warm tropical ocean water on your skin.
Feel your eight arms flowing smoothly through the water.
Feel your eight arms flowing smoothly through the water.
Feel your eight arms flowing smoothly through the water.
The warmth completely surrounds you.
You can feel it on every inch of your skin,
Comforting and relaxing.
On your way home little octopus,
You can have some fun with color.
On your way home little octopus,
You can have some fun with color.
Like other cephalopods,
You can change the color of your skin to match your surroundings.
See that beautiful coral over there?
Right next to that school of clownfish?
That whole wall of lovely coral?
What color is it?
Notice how beautiful that color is in the light of the rising sun filtering through the water.
See how it sparkles?
You can be that color too.
Your skin contains thousands of chromatophores,
Which are like tiny balloons filled with ink.
I want you to stretch out all these little balloons that are the same color as the coral.
Expand that color balloons all over your body.
Make sure the balloons on your head are puffed up,
And the balloons on the center of your body.
Puff up the balloons on each of your eight arms.
Arm one,
Arm two,
Arm three,
Arm four,
Arm five,
You're almost there.
Arm six,
Arm seven,
Arm eight.
Now you are the same color as the coral around you.
Anyone looking right at you would have a lot of trouble seeing you.
Pretty tricky.
You're a funny little octopus.
Oh,
Look little octopus.
Who do you see over there?
Your best friend,
A beautiful fish.
Isn't she lovely as she sparkles through the water?
Uh oh,
She can't see you waving hello because you're camouflaged.
You better make yourself more noticeable.
Think about a color and a pattern that you would like on your skin.
What color will you be?
Maybe your favorite color.
And what pattern?
Polka dots,
Stripes,
Flowers,
Swirls.
All right,
Now change into that color and pattern.
Feel the bumpiness of your skin.
Feel the pattern emerging on it.
You are so bright and interesting now little octopus.
Oh,
Your friend sees you.
She is admiring your bright skin and new pattern.
Wave hello.
She waves back happily.
It feels wonderful to have such a great friend.
As you keep on swimming home little octopus,
Take a moment to think about all the wonderful friends in your life.
Some of them might be part of your family.
Others might not.
Think about the good times you have had with them.
Give thanks for all those friends and the joy that they bring to you.
You are almost home,
So you don't have to swim too hard anymore.
You are very flexible little octopus.
So you let your whole body relax and weave effortlessly through the water.
You can feel yourself floating weightlessly,
The soft,
Warm water supporting your whole body.
The tender movement of the water helps to push you along,
Rocking you gently,
Making you feel so calm and sleepy.
Every muscle in your flexible body is completely relaxed.
You are not clenching or holding any of your muscles tight.
Just drifting loosely in the water,
Enjoying the warmth.
Feel the water rock you,
Your head,
The middle of your body,
And all of your arms so tranquil,
Drifting loosely.
As you float home in this relaxed state,
You think about the wonderful night you just had.
You are an explorer little octopus,
And you have been out exploring your amazing ocean home.
You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful ocean,
On such an amazing planet.
The earth meets all of your needs and is so wonderful to play on.
Again,
You take a moment to be thankful little octopus.
Thankful for the beauty of the ocean that swirls around you,
And thankful for the wonders to be found all over the earth.
Take a minute to think back on your last night and day with gratitude as well.
Think of all the interesting and fun things you did.
Think also of the challenging things you encountered,
Which even though they may have been hard,
Helped you to grow and reminded you that you are strong and capable.
Look little octopus,
What is that in front of you?
That neat pile of rocks in the distance.
It is your home.
You feel a flood of happiness to see your special place rise up in front of you.
Your home that you made with your own arms,
Gathering and piling rocks one by one until you created a cozy abode.
Here you are little octopus,
Right at your front door,
The little opening in the rock cave.
It is time to squeeze in little octopus.
Your body is so,
So flexible that you can squeeze it through almost any opening.
There you go.
Your hard little beak goes first.
Once it is through,
All the rest of you is completely flexible like a liquid.
You slip smoothly inside.
Now you are home.
It is time to get ready to drift off to sleep.
First you shut the door to your home.
That's right.
Reach one arm outside and pull the rock in place.
Perfect.
You have closed the entrance to your home.
You are completely secure.
It feels good to have such a safe,
Special place just for you.
You take a moment to enjoy the feeling of being at home and being secure as you get ready for bed.
You notice the familiar sound of bubbles drifting through the water.
And the sound of soft currents moving through the ocean.
But mostly you notice the comforting silence of the ocean all around.
Because you are so very silent little octopus,
You start to notice the sounds inside of you.
The sounds of your heartbeats.
Each of your three hearts is beating little octopus.
Tatam,
Tatam,
Tatam.
Do you hear the melody of your own body?
Listen.
You are so sleepy little octopus,
Just about ready to fall asleep.
So you think about your favorite part of sleeping,
The chance to dream.
You are an animal who experiences the right kind of sleep to dream little octopus.
And so it may be indeed that you dream octopus dreams.
In fact little octopus,
You may dream much more actively than most.
For when you sleep,
Your skin changes color,
Pattern and texture.
Maybe in response to your dreams.
So get ready to drift off.
What do you want to dream about?
Think about what you want to experience in your dreams.
What do you want to see?
Where do you want to go?
How do you want to feel?
Once you figure out what you want to do in your dreams little octopus,
Set the intention to do so.
Say it to yourself,
I will dream about.
Now tell yourself what it is that you want in your dream.
I will dream about.
There you are now,
Drifting off to sleep,
Letting go and completely relaxing into bed.
Sweet dreams little octopus,
Sweet dreams.
