I've been leading my children through guided meditations based on the natural world around us in the Northern Great Lakes region of the United States for seven years. I hope sharing these with you may help guide your own reconnection with nature around you.

We call upon and welcome the guides,

Guardians,

And spirits of the East.

Dawning day,

First light of morning rising on the horizon.

We watch the light change and grow,

Chasing away the shadows,

Bringing warmth and gentle movement to our body as we stretch awake,

Coming back to life after deep rest.

We appreciate the life in each cell of our body.

The bright light warms the sky,

And we feel,

First,

A warm spring breeze on our cheeks,

Bringing hope,

Inspiration,

Welcome,

Warmth,

Melting winter snows.

We watch hard ice soften into cool drips,

Into running,

Trickling streams,

Rushing rivers,

The whole earth moving and wet and soft again.

Welcome the return of our wet weather friends,

The fish in the lake,

Frogs in ponds,

Turtles rising from the rivers.

Welcome the return,

The first songs of migrant birds.

Welcome back,

Friends.

They remind us we can begin again.

It is not too late to start over.

We can rebuild our nest or start fresh.

Possibilities are endless in the spring.

Welcome the hopeful promise of bright blue or white or speckled green eggs in nests.

Welcome the determination of teeny tiny birds,

Pecking their way free for their first breath of fresh air.

Much like the tiny seeds softening and opening with new life sprouting forth in tiny tendrils,

Blades of grass,

Buds on trees opening,

Welcome first flowers of spring,

Bringing color and vibrancy back after a dormant winter.

Welcome crocus,

Welcome witch hazel,

Dogwood,

New growth in the willow boughs,

Stretching tall from wet earth,

Bending with the wind.

We are reminded to remain flexible as we grow so we can shift and change.

We are adapting to the world around us.

Welcome spruce tips,

Pine sap running,

Welcome sap and maple syrup churning in a large cauldron of sweetness,

First tastes of nature's sweetness in the new year.

We begin our cycle,

Stretching,

Savoring,

As we feel the whole earth soften and warm around us.

Possibilities are endless,

Hope is alive,

We are curious new learners.

We are ready for what's to come,

Come east.
