Coming back to your body's way of belonging to the world,
Not in some abstract knowing of it or thought about it,
But the way you give your body over to being.
When we're anxious about living in the world,
Our thinking separates us.
It will separate us from a core understanding of everything the body already knows,
Which is that our bodies belong to the world.
Our bodies express the world,
Our bodies are held by the world,
And resonates with all that happens in the world.
And to think that we're separate from this life is,
What Philip Shepard says,
A delusion that deadens us and dooms us.
To think that we're separate from this world.
So in your own way,
In your own time this morning,
How do you sink into your being,
Your embodied being,
And feel yourself belonging to this world?
How do you use your breath to center you,
To anchor you,
And to pull you in more to your own embodiment?
Relaxing any need to hold yourself back or hold yourself in check,
To figure out life,
Just let your body relax into being.
And as we do and as we feel our breath moving through us,
We'll feel our physical sensations again.
And the ground,
It's underneath us.
The feeling of our seat,
Of the floor,
Of our breath.
Giving yourself again the space that you need to allow your breath to drop lower,
Coming down to your pelvis.
Deepening into a felt sense of flow through your awareness of breath moving,
Energy moving through your breath.
Life force in motion.
If we can't feel a sense of energy moving through us,
Sensations pulsing in us,
Then we can't be informed by it.
But coming back again to the experience of your body belonging to the world.
Not in a way that submits itself to the world,
But has a sense of place,
Its own autonomy,
Its own agency,
Free to move in and among other living beings in the world,
One among the others.
Remembering what the body knows,
Knowing your own body as a resonator,
As a vibrating instrument.
Can you experience your breath as a flow,
As a wave of energy moving through you?
Or do you stiffen against it?
As we relax into the moment,
Allow our tensions to melt and fade and sink into the ground,
Holding possibility for our ability to attune to this world,
To hum.
Feel what it's like this morning just to let yourself hum on your exhalation.
Let sound vibration move through your body and have the felt sense of that.
Hum in whatever way your body wants.
There is no right or wrong way to hum.
Philip Shepard says when we can let our bodies vibrate like this as it hums,
The present moment lives within us.
We experience the present moment living within us.
That sense of living.
Practicing this embodiment this morning,
Readiness is a preparation and a readiness to exchange with the world.
Let's see if we can one more time this day find our way into common ground.
Each of us in our own way coming into existence again,
Coming into encounters in our day.
So feel how you're here now.
Uncoded sensitivity rooted on solid ground,
Bodies capable of humming,
Sensing,
In readying yourself for an exchange with the world.
