Welcome to this reading for hexagram number 11 of the I Ching,
Entitled Tranquility.
The theme here relates to harmony,
Balanced flow and prosperity.
Peace flows like a river,
Unobstructed and abundant,
Connecting earth and heaven in harmony.
Peace is the joyful balance where all things thrive,
A time when obstacles dissolve and life flows freely towards prosperity.
In the symbolism of this hexagram,
We see three yielding yin lines leaving.
In other words,
They are in the upper trigram,
While three strong yang lines are approaching.
These closed lines are in the lower trigram,
And this suggests the onset of a favorable and successful time.
The union of earth and heaven confirms stability and openness,
For together they symbolize alignment in one's world,
A time and place where energies move smoothly and effortlessly.
The message also signifies heaven and earth in communication together.
The I Ching says,
The wise ruler in harmony with this,
Fashions and completes his regulations after the courses of the heavens and the earth,
And assists the applications of the adaptations furnished by them,
In order to benefit the people.
As the farmer works in harmony with the seasons to provide for his needs,
So the wise and sensible person progresses by working with nature and not against it.
Listening deeply into this message,
We hear that peace or tranquility is not a mere absence of conflict,
It is the presence of balance,
Harmony in relationships,
In nature and within oneself.
This hexagram teaches that true prosperity arises when inner and outer worlds resonate.
Now take a moment to reflect where in your life does harmony flow easily,
Naturally.
And now consider where in your life are adjustments needed to restore balance.
This is a time to invite openness,
Generosity and trust,
The seeds of lasting peace.
Taking a slow breath in,
Begin to imagine a field bathed in morning sunlight.
Soft winds are stirring the grasses.
Rivers are running clear and full.
Now ask of yourself,
How can I too nurture peace within and around me?
And even if no direct answers come through immediately,
Just trust that they are unfolding within your wisdom.
And now ask,
Where does harmony call for my presence?
With gentleness,
Release the focus of those questions.
And let us now consider these words of wisdom from the I Ching.
It is possible for anyone to develop the strength of a calm demeanor,
If they want to.
The sense of contentment then follows and everything is rendered harmonious.
Turning to the imagery of the hexagram once again,
There is a focus on the coming together of earth and heaven.
So let there too be a coming together,
Perhaps within yourself,
But also let it be with others.
The message here talks strongly to joining together with others in a shared endeavor to achieve a common goal.
For more guidance,
Please listen to the I Ching reading for hexagram number one,
For the creative,
Also known as heaven.
As well as hexagram number two,
For the earth,
Also known as the receptive.
For it is a balancing between the qualities of these two that brings the harmony,
Peace and tranquility referred to in this hexagram.
In closing,
Let's look toward the Tao Te Ching,
Chapter 50,
Which says,
I have heard it generally said that a man who is good at taking care of his life will travel hill and dale,
But not encounter wild-horned buffaloes or tigers.
He will enter a battlefield,
But not put on protective armor.
The wild buffalo finds no place to thrust its horns.
The tiger finds no place to sink its claws.
And soldiers find no place to strike with their blades.
Now listen,
Why is this?
It is because for him there is no dangerous place.
