Life has a way of throwing challenges our way.

And sometimes people make mistakes that cut deep,

Including ourselves.

I'm Shelley,

A therapeutic arts healer and empowerment coach.

And today we're gonna explore the topic of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not about condoning the actions that caused you pain.

It's about freeing yourself from the chains of bitterness and hurt.

When you forgive,

You release the grip that the past has on your present,

Allowing you to step into a future unburdened by resentment.

It's not about forgetting or pretending the pain didn't exist.

It's about choosing to not let it define you.

Forgiveness is acknowledging that there has been unguided actions made either by yourself or someone else,

And unleashing the strength and capacity in your heart to show remorse.

Remorse being the feeling of knowing you will prevent yourself from reliving the pain in the future,

Or repeating the same actions that caused someone else to feel bitter towards you.

Feelings of anger and resentment should be felt and processed.

Allow yourself to feel the fullness of anger about the situation.

Someone has hurt you.

Someone has betrayed your trust.

Someone made you feel unsafe.

Anger and resentment are involuntary emotions one should not suppress.

However,

Holding on to anger and resentment is like carrying a backpack of rocks on your journey.

It will only slow you down and hinder your progress.

Forgiveness is about lightening the load,

Enabling you to walk with grace and purpose.

Forgiveness is a process,

Not a one-time event.

It's okay if it takes time.

Be patient with yourself.

Allow the wounds to heal at their own pace,

But actively choose not to let them fester.

When you're processing forgiveness and you feel resentment kick in,

Make note if you're fueling the fire by ruminating over the pain and hurt you felt.

Identify and acknowledge the emotion of pain,

Anger,

And frustration by saying,

In this moment,

I feel angry because I was let down by someone I love.

I relieve myself from the burden of this pain by choosing forgiveness.

As you embrace forgiveness,

You're not just giving a second chance to someone else,

You're giving yourself a second chance at peace,

Happiness,

And a brighter future.

Continue to release the pain,

Embrace the freedom that forgiveness offers,

And step into the beautiful possibilities that await.

Today,

Choose to reclaim your power and rewrite the narrative of your life with forgiveness as a main character.

As we end this talk,

Let's recite a few lines from the famous Hawaiian prayer and direct it towards someone you want to forgive.

Repeat after me.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

One more time.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

Thank you for listening.
